GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I do like the improved visibility and wish the OG had the option to remove the display or have it lower in the dash (some best motoring hot version videos have the JDM version without this and it looks ideal)…

From a more minor cosmetics point of view I also like the IC spray and the fact it has a mode that says “gravel” on the dial as that’s a neat touch and is just cool for some reason to me. The kudos of the original and wrc badge is probably enough of an offset for me though in that regard.
RC model had the screen removed - also option to retrofit. just get rid of the screen. though I like the screen as use it for recce navigation.
btw note also those nice pedals. no fancy and expensive GR aluminum there...

Taken from the Toyota Europe Newsroom website today:
"In normal mode the standard front/rear torque distribution is 60:40; in Track mode the balance shifts to the rear, with variable drive torque distribution between 60:40 and 30:70 to achieve a fun-to-drive quality on winding roads and circuits; and in Gravel mode the base setting is 53:47 for fast, competitive driving on circuits or special stages. In each mode, the torque balance will automatically adjust in response to the driver’s inputs, vehicle behaviour and road or track conditions".
So 30:70 is still available within Track Mode but it is set automatically depending on road conditions and driver's inputs.
I take that to mean that 'Normal' is a set 60:40, 'Gravel' is a set 53:47, and track is a user selectable between 60:40 and 30:70. Otherwise, what's this 'Drive Mode' selector to the left of the knob?

I think "In each mode, the torque balance will automatically adjust in response to the driver’s inputs, vehicle behaviour and road or track conditions" refers to the constant adjustment of the center clutch-pack pressure to maintain the targeted torque split and/or traction/stability control adjustments.

To be clear, this is based just on repeatedly seeing both that, or similar, phrasing and pictures showing the 'Drive Mode' adjuster.

That’s really cool! I am going to assume it’s not reversible? Looks so much better, was that self done or a kit?

Agree on the IC, it just sounds cool so maybe I’ll get a sticker printed. I can’t imagine doing a lap of a track, finding I’ve plateaued and then realising it’s because I’d forgotten to spray the intercooler enough 😝 I’ll need lots of lessons and training before I get to that level of marginal gain. I do love the AYC thing on Evos with the gravel snow track mode etc but yep purely branding for me.
Its fully reversible and easy to install. An Austrian company that drives rallies with the GR makes these conversion kits. You can buy in Alcantara and carbon. Carbon reflects the sun...

in PreProd/Japan its
left FRONT, right REAR.
Likely same functionality, just more fancy naming in EU cars.

Do you have a link and do you know if they do international shipping? If not then I’ll try to buy when visiting friends in Europe over summer. Good to know re the reflection too, thanks so much.

Briefly off-topic: I believe the GR Corolla has a switch like that (rather than our 'PUSH NORMAL'). I suspect the switch itself is responsible for the change in behavior, by which I mean that the switch doesn't send a signal for 'Left', 'Right', or 'Push' and leave the ECU to decide what to do with it. Rather, I suspect the GR Corolla 'PUSH TRACK' switch sends the same signal to the ECU when pushed that ours sends when twiddled to the right.

Which would suggest that we could put the GR Corolla switch into a GR Yaris and have it behave as it does in the Corolla. Which is tempting.

All speculation, at the moment.

I'm taking it again from toyota.eu website:

"A new drive mode selection function is available to tailor the car for both sports driving and everyday use, with Sport, Normal and Eco modes engaging different settings for the electric power steering, air conditioning operation, throttle response and the driver’s instrument display. "

So it looks like the knob is dedicated only to the 4wd settings, and the drive mode setting is a more traditional "mode" selector, including a new "Eco" one to save fuel and limit emissions.

45 398 € when I ordered it mid Dec 2020. CO2 tax of 6039 € included... I was lucky to get a bit of a discount. Our agreement was that I paid for 2020 CO2 tax only and Toyota paid the delta for the 2021 CO2 tax (+1 700 €)
All in all, it's still "only" HALF the price of what it would cost to buy one now !
Ok, thanks
So the MK2 is appr. 10.000€ more before tax (BBS rims included)

I love our analog mk1 even it is not perfect. I am still tempted to have the mk2 but the more I know, the less I want to trade.
For me all these changes make this car easier to drive and, IMO, the mk2 has drifted to something I would not own.

Looking at the interior pictures... where is the Button to deactivate start/stopp?!?!
Any idea?😅
I have a theory.
New driving "modes" button will fix most managing of these settings. By default everything will be on as usual, but there will be custom mode aswell where you will be able to change throttle map/gearshifts (eco, standard, sport) and also start-stop, lane assist, traction,... I'm talking about that up-down switch, not rotary.

Actually I checked many photos and videos but I couldn't see it myself as well.
I worries me a bit, because I'm afraid they moved the off button to the electronic menus, and that would make turning it off much more inconvenient.
Anyone saw where they placed it?

Man, I wish there was a kit one could buy that eliminates the screen while keeping some of the infotainment features. I'd be really interested in that! I'd pay a premium for something so sleek.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the JDM RC spec? If it is, it doesn't come with a radio, does it? I'm asking because I don't see any speakers in that photo.

I wish there was a retrofit option that could remove the screen but still maintain basic radio functionality through the dash. The downside is that such a retrofit would likely remove many useful features from the infotainment system.

Yeah, the RC is one of the JDM specs, the most common spec is the RZ which is a combination of what the UK would call the Circuit and Conv packs, plus some extras like intercooler sprays etc. IIRC, RC has steel wheels, and is kinda a base motorsport level. There is a google doc lurking around with the varying specs by country on it, but it's unsure if it has certain things... it certainly doesn't have the audio and radio controls, but it does have track skip button on the steering wheel. It's plausible I guess that the audio still works with Android Auto or Car Play I suppose
