GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Very near me are a couple of ranges, one has a one way up gravel road. Reasonably wide but less than 2 cars worth, relatively smooth and 100% fun. I was driving it somewhat enthusiastically with a mate on board and mid blind corner where none of the wheels were pointing in the same direction as the road I encountered a roadie heading down in the middle of the road. I slid to a stop and he rode past. Half a hand off the bars in a nervous wave. I ride mountain bikes and avoid roads where possible but this guy either had a death wish or believed in some exestential intervention. He would have heard me for many hundreds of metres, the engine was sitting around redline and the gravel smashing around was deafening but no let's just use the centre of the road the wrong way. Sigh. My mate said lucky it was you, I wouldn't have been able to avoid him. Sigh (the sequel).
Bit odd story, you're hammering round a blind corner too narrow to pass two abreast, but it was the other's fault? Unless it was a closed off rally stage you shouldn't have a license if you still find it to blame whoever was coming the other way...
There can be many reasons why they didn't hear you, some legitimate, others less. But they sure enough don't have to accomodate a wannabe rally driver coming round a blind bend.

I do have many similar stories, love driving narrow roads through the forest and the odd passenger asks how can you drive that fast. Well, on blind corners I can stop and I cannot count the near missis. As I come to a stop as much to the side as possible, and the oncoming person same speed in the middle of the road narrowly missing me as they barely manage to swerve. As we say in Sweden, 'Noll koll'. Zero competence, just driving same speed everywhere, hoping for the best...

And if it wasn't clear, they were drivers in cars. Should I hate all other drivers now?

I don't understand the anecdotal nature of pointing out 'roadies', I meet bad traffic participants in cars (yourself above), trucks, busses, on bicycles, motorcycles and e-scooters, pedestrians etc. And I have myself made many a bad judgement in most modes of transportation and learned from them. But still happens occasionally.

Own your own mistakes, and allow that other people, whatever transportation they are using, will make them.

If we're making sweeping judgements...Tesla drivers are worse than cyclists I had two pull out on me when I was turning right at roundabouts yesterday, don't think these folk with poor taste in electric cars understand the difference between a GRY and a boggo Yaris 😉

In other news I spent a few days in the peak district last week, hiking and driving, snakes pass was closed but found a different road I never knew of before that was nice to drive instead, had two motorcyclists who let me pass and gave a thumbs up

Keeping up with motorbikes in corners is eye opening in this car and something I’d not experienced before! Staying in Peak District in a couple of weeks and looking forwards to exploring some roads as I don’t know it too well.

I have both. GRY and Tesla 😅.

There's tens of thousands up here at the moment, all going for a hero lap over the Mountain - many don't expect to see a car in their mirrors...

There are often occasions on country roads near me where cyclists ride inappropriately. Four-abreast, not allowing a bit of space on a straighter bit of road where a car can easily pass (making it safer for all parties), or will even ride towards me in the middle of the road.

The majority are fine, some are arse holes. Same goes for car drivers, pedestrians, runners, etc...
Sadly, there are too many angry road users that seem to be looking for an argument.

I’m surprised the mods haven’t said it yet, but can we keep this great thread on topic? I’ve read every bullshit anti-cycling argument out there since the internet started. There is no solution to it, might as well argue about religion or politics. Cyclists aren’t going anywhere, they were happily pedalling around before Karl Benz put the Motorwagen on their roads and they’ll be happily pedalling around after you have the right to drive your own car taken away. Get over it, you’ll be happier in the long run.

You'll definitely love it 😄. Let me know if you fancy meeting up for an early morning drive 👍

Yes. Sorry for that, language thing, thought one way up meant something else. I learned as a young kid to always slow down for blind bends whatever the formal rules, neighbour kid ran into an old lady rounding a corner full speed, injuring her. He was literally grounded for a whole year. That were times of discipline...

Today a warning light and message popped up (September 2021 car, 16500 miles) “PCS radar in self calibration mode and unavailable”. I am sure I have read something about this on the forum but can’t find it. I am quite happy for the annoying warnings when you get close to stationary vehicles to be turned off but I like the option of radar cruise control on the motorway and I would like to get rid of the constant warning symbol. Short of taking it back to the dealer, any ideas?

Check the cable is connected under the bonnet? But think it’s a dealer visit.

I popped into Toyota today to show them the failed drivers door seal which is creating lots of wind noise as it scoops the rear window. I’ve been resetting it myself the last year and of course every time there’s a service it’s not moved and I rarely pass the dealership.

They were really helpful took a load of photos and should get a call Monday to hopefully confirm it’s a warranty job.

Check for any crud on the radar sensor. Any time I’ve had that kind of message there was a big bug splat or leaf on it
