GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

I did that last year and you will notice a difference. Mine is just a road car so thought the PS4 / PS5 are just fine for me. I bought a Bola wheel and put the Dunlop on it as a full size spare so saved some cash there.
The thought of a spare does appeal!

Let us know what the difference is. My Dunlops will need changing in a few months...
I probably could have run the Dunlop's for another 6 months but I had a slow puncture caused by a nail so I decided to change them all early rather than spend out on a repair. The Dunlop performed OK and I found them good in the wet but I was definitely keen to swap them out.

First impressions of the Michelin PS5 are very positive. I hope I don't miss the rim protector! Not a euphemism.

I had considered the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 which are available for around £105 each. ASDA tyres also offer a £40 Voucher (ASDA, obviously) when a set of four are bought together so effectively reducing the fitted price to £95 each.

Interesting that you mention rim protection, as that's definitely a positive with the Dunlops - especially on a daily driver.

The asymmetric 6 (funky name) sound interesting... 🤔

If they are good they'll tell you your driving style doesn't match the tire capabilities and the wheel alignment ;-)

Bye for now Fred
Didn't get direct answer why tire wears out so much from the "shoulders" but they said that PS4S is not suitable for hard driving. Which I think its a bit funny but maybe true as it cannot take much beating. Sent the same question then again to Michelin. but maybe Cup2 is better choice for any sportier driving.

Most UHP tires have an ultra grippy, but weak shoulder area. Combined with too much toe in and/or wrong camber with high steering input the shoulder will rub off quite easily. That's life: High wear mostly equals good traction (from tire point of view).

Currently putting the car on a diet. Weighed it last week and it’s a chonky 1340kg so 60kg over stock weight. I’ve added a LOT of heavy stuff though, like the intercooler and oil cooler. And my aftermarket seats are the same weight as stock ones. So I’m out on the drive with some scales and a few spanners 😂

The wife’s car is arriving on Friday so the GR will then be going clubsport and more track focused. Looking forward to not sailing the QE2 every time I drive it

I'm keen to know what is likely to cause more tyre wear. I understand that out of the various geo mods, toe is a/the major factor when it comes to tyre wear.

I recently read @DrSetup 's post about toe-out wearing tyres on the inside, if driving on the streets. @DrSetup , to avoid me misunderstanding, by "inside" did you mean the centre of the tyre's width, please, or the inner side/shoulder?

@AP756 your post mentions toe in exclusively. Does this mean you feel that toe out is unlikely to have a significant impact on tyre wear on the outer sides/shoulders?

Thank you!

Toe out usually makes a car more nervous on uneven road surface and on load changes. Some people like that and recommend it. IMHO best compromise in drivability is a tad toe in, just enough to compensate elasticity in steering, axle components and tires.
Toe out might reduce tire wear on cost of drivability.

Gave the 'bogo' (the connoisseurs choice) GRY a tickle-up after the new boots were fitted. Traipsed down to the local dealership to ask why my routine service was listed as 'Repair' on the app before finding some Twisties to run the PS5s in, a little. Left me wondering why Toyota fitted the Dunlop's from factory. Odd.

When combined with camber it's the inner shoulder that takes the damage. In some extreme cases it's not even the tread but the inside of the tyre. If camber is "normal" it's more from the middle towards the inside that wears.

Toe-out normaly don't causes the outer shoulder to wear unless positive camber.

2nd annual service.

Came back for all tyre pressures set to 34. Wonder what else they got wrong?

Mine were 38 last time. 2 different dealerships this one has got it wrong twice and the last one 3 times.

I’ve fed it back this time verbally and in their reviews they insist on hassling you about. Suggesting does their workshop manual say different to what’s printed on the car and in the owners manual.
