What is your real world average MPG?

The manual is more efficient than the auto... and driving at 50, I reset the MPG average for a 10 mile mobile roadworks... and even that at 50, in 6th gear that was pushing 42... and I've done 2k miles, so arguably my engine is more broken in.
You sure? I know it's a torque converter rather than a more modern DSG-type box, so usually you'd assume it might be less efficient than a manual...but I'm pretty sure Eraskus is right in that the auto has longer gearing. So at a steady speed on the motorway without a headwind you might just crack 50MPG.

Guys I am right in this case. I was very careful and checked several times in disbelief. Next time I will stop and take a photo of the mpg screen.
GT86 auto also was achieving unbelievable motorway mpg.
But I think what is happening is brutal slipstreaming the eyesight system achieves.
Personally I have always been too scared to follow fast traffic on the right at close distance especially for a long period of time. I simply get tired. But in this case I was testing the eye sight and set it to close distance so I think I benefited from aerodynamic sheltering of the vehicles in the front.
We did have some traffic that day and could not always maintain 70mph speeds. But most of the time something like 65-73mph was maintained.
May be the wind direction helped also
I don’t know. The car was fully loaded with people and suitcases, petrol etc

On that note as far as I now the auto transmission locks after a period of time meaning efficiency losses are minimised. Manual mode also locks immediately. I was at full auto at that time

The auto can lock in 2nd gear and above, I believe, so it's effectively not getting any slip in the torque converter. You can feel it slip in first at low speeds, but not in the other gears.

50mpg is quite achievable, I hit 48 driving back from Cadwell on the motorway, 60mph or so. Drag is proportional to velocity squared, and power needed proportional to velocity cubed, so 70mph requires 59% more power than 60mph.

I really can't see you got 50 actual average. I'm calling shenanigans. I think you've read the wrong dial imo, above it is the "consumption at present" middle is the average. 50 is borderline impossible at actual sensible speeds and not travelling exclusively downhill, whilst also a tail wind pushes you on... PLUS, the gasps and whispers of your fans willing your MPG to be that high. This is the only way, whilst also travelling at 42 mpg in 6th gear for extended duration.

Short term, you could achieve 50... but on any actual distance... (1 mile or higher) I have my doubts.
In most cases manual is more efficient than auto, but in the GR the auto is geared differently, so can cruise at lower rpm and get better mpg. Best I got in my manual is 47mpg over about 20 miles going slow on the motorway, so 50mpg sounds possible for an auto.

Fair enough, pretty amazing if so. Awesome either way!

Gearing is longer all the way through on the auto box , especially on 5/6

Ok my little one took this photo today
Cold start. Warmed up 5mins until we hit m4. Adaptive Cruise set to min distance. Only 15 miles in, it was showing 48mpg. Photo taken off motorway on A road. Followed fastest cars. Some parts of the way, solo at max speed limit. Same happened on the day we had long distance travel and the avg mpg crept up to 50.0mpg and stabilised. It is possible that then gauge is calibrated optimistically but someone here tested and found the avg mpg accurate if memory serves.

Impressive figures from the onboard computer 👍 As you know the only way to be able to confirm those figures is to do a calculation using brim to brim (I always fill mine the same way , nozzle fully in and fill until it clicks off, three times) and see how they compare. My Golf R was only a couple of % optimistic , the C-HR has been know to be a couple of % pessimistic.

In the meantime enjoy the car and the low fuel costs 👍😎

Today I have e10, poor man’s petrol. Hopefully will have time for fill up super this weekend. It requires me to drive to far away station (to fill up with super) but it gets even more efficient with super from my experience.

Just filled up with 44.63 litres after 358 miles which I calculate as 36.5mpg.

That was from a long motorway journey with few hold ups.

I filled up after driving about 10 miles past zero.

I'm averaging 26 mpg over the first 800 miles. Each tank the calculated mpg seems to be improving and I regularly see over 30 on my normal journeys now. No motorway driving and I tend to vary the rpm during the break in period.

Local is still 25-27mpg I've seen more than 30mpg on runs so I'm hopeful that if others are getting 35+ on longer runs then my trip to Scotland and back in a few weeks won't be too bad. Been a long time since I've had to plan fuel stops since I only want to put Super in it.

Around 36 mpg on my last 100 miles journey back from Japfest and 33 mpg on the last tank overall, most of it spent on motorway/A-road driving.

I'm sitting at just over 27 mpg average, but consistently above 25 mpg, even on brisk B-road runs.

Was tracking it on Fuelly for a bit but now I know what it does I won't be as it's a PITA if you don't want full tanks. I did find out on the way back from Japfest that 400 miles is about 51 litres. I only know this because I chickened out at Leigh Delamare and stuck some in and when I worked it out at the end I would've been 1 litre short getting back to my usual station. If Google hadn't diverted me down the A34 and a few further M4 junctions on, instead of going towards Oxford, saving about 30 miles or so I may have done it.

Locally it's 27-28mpg with a little playing. On longer motorway runs it's 33-35mpg. When I do Scotland in May, however I will keep all the receipts to see how well I did based on predictions for when I do UK 3 Peaks. I won't be resetting counters for the duration as I want to see what the car thinks total MPG is compared to actual but it's been pretty spot on for me so far.

My last tank averaged 28.9MPG, the one before 33.2MPG (calculated the old fashioned way, not off the car) I can't really complain as I do a lot of urban driving and don't really nanny it around.

What's interesting is the range prediction and average fuel economy accuracy, it seems to have settled nicely now. Both times I've filled up were after 285 miles driven, after refills the car range was displaying 282 and 287 miles. I didn't reset the average fuel consumption but between the 2 fills it comes in at average of 31.05mpg with the car displaying 31.8mpg.

A 0.75mpg and 3 mile range difference from the actual result is really good.

I averaged 26.8 mpg (10.54l/100km) on my first tank and 30.1 mpg (9.37l/100km) on my second tank with my MT. As any other Japanese car I have driven, the onboard MPG computer is slightly pessimistic and showing higher consumption than it actually is.

The auto will definitely get more mpg not just because of the gearing but because the torque converter will allow driving at lower RPM overall IMO. I don't know how about you, but this car won't allow me to drive below 2.5k RPM, anything below 2.5k RPM feels like I am lugging the engine basically and not healthy at all.
