Well the 2025 vehicle tax levies are gonna be a kick in the bawz for EV owners!
Yr2 onwards looks like being £165 (after £10 for Yr1), plus any EV over £40k is also going to be subject to the ‘Expensive Car Supplement’. An owner could effectively go from £0 today to £560+ in April next year. How is that meant to be encouraging ffs? 🤦🏼‍♂️
 
Government doing its best to screw over U.K. built EVs (and European ones too) in favour of cheap imports from China. The £40k limit will plunge the vast majority of EVs into the top band.

That said quite a few people who’ve gone and bought used EVs ( as the Grauniad waxed lyrical about) will find they’ve been a sold a pup as that £0 annual fee is now £190.

U.K. government seems determined to make owning and driving a car a luxury rather than a necessity.
 
The over 40k tax already applied didn't it? So it's just bringing in the standard yearly rate.

It was always going to happen, cheaper fuelling costs are the big saver...
 
I've said it before and I'll say it again, anyone who's surprised that the government will start taxing EVs hasn't been paying attention.

If the fleet of consumer vehicles is moving in the direction of having a sizable minority or even a majority of those cars being EVs, of f-cking course they're going to tax them at parity with ICE.

Can't have a revenue hole now can we?

No, not for zero emission vehicles. It was one of the added 'benefits' of driving an expensive EV with Nil tax and Nil £40k limit. Taken from Gov website:
"You have to pay an extra £410 a year if you have a car or motorhome with a ‘list price’ of more than £40,000. You do not have to pay this if you have a zero emission vehicle."
This is now being scrapped after 01 April 2025.
 
The threshold tax strategy has helped consumers get cheaper EVs in other countries, so maybe could have a sizeable up side in the UK too?!?
 
Unsustainable for corporations who expect some form of return on the resale of their lease fleet.

Great news for buyers in the used/second hand market.

Do we care more about companies than we care about consumers now?
 
UK car market is relatively small being RHD and no major auto trade to other countries. As such it tends to swing a bit harder, both up and down, compared to larger markets with more buffer in numbers and differing market, regulatory and consumer preference conditions.
 
Manufacturers got used to being able to set higher and higher ‘false’ RRPs and that, combined with lack of confidence in their own products and their rapacious finance house arms, led to massive overpricing.

This is just a welcome correction. I ain’t weeping for fleet operators :)

That’s literally all the Daily Wail does. It exists to make people angry, and looking around e.g. on the train to work, it’s definitely a certain (gullible) demographic reading it.

On a trip to Amsterdam and back at the weekend I discovered what I consider to be 'The Greatest Feature In Any Car, Ever' in my little Tesla.

On entering an average speed camera zone you are warned about it, and then for the length of the zone you are told a) exactly how many km you have left to go in it, and b) your average speed through the zone!

I can't tell you how often I'd wished for this in a car! Worth the purchase price alone!
 
I agree there they are annoying, but I think there's little doubt they do help smooth traffic through roadworks etc.

BS. Not liking then isn't the same as them being a problem. Rather the opposite, data from Belgium (they have a lot of them) is clear, the number of accidents with injury and death have been halved with average speed cameras. Halved!

This is simply because speeding isn't automatically associated with driving skill (but I hope it is here), to me the safety of transportating loved ones is more important.

I have my fun when nobody else is around. Or the odd gap in traffic, where keeping track of average speed is very useful 😁

Is this something that you have to activate? Or has it been added in a very recent update? (Model Y)

Having travelled the A9 a few weeks ago this would have been very useful as we looked to ‘make progress’ where opportunities presented.

No, it just appeared on the screen when approaching the area. Maybe it was enabled in the latest software update which was in July sometime.

It's put in under safety or in our case BS about the environment. This is the govt saying we don't trust that you won't speed so we'll enforce it permanently. Minor speed limit breaches aren't killing anyone. The ones who overspeed and take silly risks always will. Darwinism will take care of those. The stupid drivers now have a false sense of complacency that by doing the limit, nothing will go wrong. Now there's a system to hold the speed and say when it's over so it does it all for them. The need to have any skill to drive is being removed so people don't think. Big stretches of the M4 here are average speed and they have issues all the time with bumps and delays. May work there but it doesn't where I live. I actively avoid them now.
