GR Yaris Yaris GR Seat Lowering Kit comparison

OK, no surprising news here: dealer claims that the post-facelift mounting kit is not available by itself, only as part of an entire new seat. Which costs ~1800 eur. As for compatibility, he said the only way of finding out for sure is to actually order the whole thing. Shame.
According to the info from a GRY FL (MK2) Owner are the seat mounting points in the bodywork a lower designed now.
That means that probably the seat including the mounting kit is the same like the MK1.

Have you already found a seat lowering solution that can be approved in Germany or has a TÜV certificate?

Due to the costs of certificate nobody will have a seat lowering kit you look for. Closest you can get is _this_. When I got my first TÜV approval with this kit installed there was no complains (looks quite original). Most important: get them for both seats and all looks standard.

Bye for now. Fred

I'm still looking for ways to lower my seat on my new GRY MK2.
Is the seat mounted lower in the car and thus can I use a seat lowering kit which fits the original seat?
In the past I needed to have a fixed seating position with a Recaro Pole Position ABE however I'm at an age where I would like to retain the original seat.
Anyone who can tell me something from these pictures I took at the Nurburgring earlier this year?

Any news on this? I have the mk2 waiting at the dealership and I don't know if I should remove the base from the mk1 to put it on the mk2

No news from my part. I will get my GRY MK2 next week but I already know I would like to sit another 2,5cm lower yet. Does anyone know if there's a different seatbase or lowering kit available which fits the MK2?

I have decided to buy a lowering kit for both driver & passenger side.

I am trying to decide one of the following...

Could you suggest one of the above kits?

Is there any stability issues?

I know that all of them need to cut plastic parts...and I am not very happy about this...

Especially gp-elite kit need to cut 10 millimetres of plastic trim on the side plastic trim of the seat......🙄

Thanks!

I can't say anything about any of these kits, because I haven't tried them, but I can say that the plastic part you have to cut under the seat (excluding the gp-elite) is completely invisible, it is under the seat, and will not be visible even if you revert to OEM.

Yes i agree about this about the SWM and ImportRacing kits.

Is there someone who uses the GP-Elite kit to tell us impressions...?

I had the SWM mounted on the GR1, the truth is that it looked very solid and well built. On the other hand, it was very heavy.

I'm still struggling with the standard seat hight in de GRY MK2. I would love to go down another 30mm, that would be ideal.
No one in the UK who have lowered the seating position?

Reversed my Importracing seat lowering yesterday. From the get-go I felt I teny tiny bit of free play in the seat. The added layers between me and the chassis resulted in my seat being a bit less rigid. I accepted it due to the more comfortable position.

Now, after 20k KM, the seat was starting to squeak at bit, so I decided to reverse it. And what a decision.

No squeaking and I gained about 20 hp from being directly connected to the chassis and getting the kick from the engine and gearshift directly in my spine, not through 2 centimeters of «seatlag»™️. I’ll live with my beanie rubbing against the roof in winter.

Lastly: no cutting or stuff like that so it’s fully reversible.

I wonder if anyone has just cut 'n shut the perches to reduce their height to match the MK2? Surely not that difficult for a decent welder?

I'm using my DIY seat-lowering solution. Yes I know, it's not engineered by a actual engineer, not welded by a professional welder and certified only by my common sense. But I'll take my chances. ;)

It lowers the seat by approximately 30mm, is very sturdy, and frees me from the existential dilemma: "Should I go one click forward or back?"

I also had a lowering kit both sides that I decided to remove after a while. In my case I couldn't live with the amount of vibration/movement I could see travelling up the passenger seat back when it was unoccupied, and after removing the passenger side I couldn't live with how much higher it then was compared to the drivers side!

It wasn't easy readjusting to the standard seat height again, but you get used to it.

Oh wow really? Was literally just about to order a SWM slider / tilt kit but really don’t want any vibrations as the car is buzzy enough as it it

The driver's side was fine tbf, as I was always sat in it - never noticed any movement and lower seating position was great.

The mostly unoccupied passenger side was my gripe. You'll see a little movement in the headrest of an unoccupied passenger seat with stock mounting, but the lowering kit narrows the mounting, and mounts it on a metal plate that however tiny will have some flex. The upshot was that some surfaces like poor motorway surfaces caused the headrest to almost resonate - not actually making a noise but vibrations from the road surface travelling up the back of the seat because it was no longer as planted, if that makes sense!

I never actually got around to selling them and I've clearly shot myself in the foot here somewhat, but let me know if you'd be interested in either or both second hand 😂

So the stripes on the long pieces are there to hold the mounting bolts in place?.
Is one piece angle?. Bit hard to tell being all black.

So the stripes on the long pieces are there to hold the mounting bolts in place?.

Long pieces are made of 50x5mm steel. Steel angles, 20x20x3mm, form hollow strengthening ribs for the long pieces, serving solely as reinforcement. The seat mounting studs are countersunk M8 10.9-grade bolts, welded from beneath. The front ones are covered by the angle iron, while the rear ones are visible positioned around the rear mounting hole, which is also countersunk to allow the rear seat bracket to rest over it. Washers around the mounting holes are used to raise the "rails" above the carpet, ensuring a steel-to-steel contact with the car body rather than a steel-to-carpet-to-steel connection.

I hope the photo taken before powder coating makes this clearer.
