GR86 Why Arenโ€™t GR86โ€™s being Delivered?

not sure if this is relevant ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ
euro spec tuned to less 1 less Kw whatever that means
172kw is 230bhp.
I think the original quoted figure was 231bhp, and 228bhp for the US models.

I doubt a 1bhp defecit is going to be noticeable unless you stick it on a dyno. And if it does bother you, you could probably make it back with a decent performance panel filter.

HP Horse Power:
Calculated, without compensation for outside factors such as friction.

BHP Brake Horse Power:
brake-style dynamometer, engineโ€™s output, prior to going through a vehicleโ€™s transmission and driveline (at flywheel/flexplate).

WHP Wheel Horse Power:
chassis dynamometer, output that a vehicle is able of putting to the pavement.

W Watt:
The only correct and non stupid unit for rating power ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜…

According to our "insiders" information, this is not the case.

He compared it to the climate-fluid issue, we had with the first gen.
When 1234yf was needed, but r134a was filled.

According to him, they just wait for parts from subaru.

So it COULD be related to the particle filter.
But he said, 3 parts are wrong.
Does that mean that each single dealer here in the EU, with a GR86 on hold, is expecting parts from the other side of the world to fix this problem? Do these insiders know if these parts are already on the way or is the solution yet to be found? Do they have an ETA?
Thanks for sharing the info btw :)

WHP and BHP are not exclusive of each other. WHP is BHP whereas BHP is not always WHP. Your obsession with referencing WHP makes no sense in most of the threads you quote it.

WHP is a bit of a nonsense concept anyway. BHP being HP minus frictional losses. How can you have horsepower at the wheels without frictional losses?

Edit: just noticed I accidentally switched HP and BHP. Now corrected.
Of course WHP is not always equal to BHP and not exclusive to each other.

I am just pointing out that the GR86 we are getting have performance difference between JDM space because of the GPF in which the WHP is less than JDM spec. The WHP Of JDM shows that around 200whp which equals to 235bhp but the euro spec has 10ish WHP less. In this case, our GR86 does not have really have 235bhp.

I donโ€™t really agree that WHP is nonsense . Many tuners or petrol enthusiasts in the world use WHP as a reference to indicate the power performance of the car if you are doing dyno tune and look at dyno graph.

Toyota can claims whatever BHP the car has but it is not always correct or accurate . Donโ€™t forget GT86 claims to have 200hp as well but we all knows it is around it not the case.

What confused me is, that HP, BHP, PS and KW are UNITS, but are commonly used for the measurement of motor power.

While WHP is the MEASUREMENT of power at the wheels in HP.
Also BHP is HP * 0.99 by definition (which is technically BS, because losses are not allways and everywhere 1%).

So. To confuse all of you, we could also messure "WHP" in BHP or (the exact wording is) "wheel power" in KW, PS or DP (Donkey Power), getting WKW, WPS and WDP.

So comparing WHP to BHP is (mathematicly) impossible, because one is a maesurement and one is a unit.
You could say "Wheel power" is x HP or y BHP or z KW or u PS.

Sorry for that. That post was more for my own understanding ;)

As far as i know, this is the case.
I asked for ETA, but no answer, yet.
It was said "18 days" but not, if for every car, for all cars or from a specific date (so useless info).

The units are PS or W (kW)

WHP and BHP are technically no units. It's the HP in relation to the point it is measured. They were introduced to give more practical HP values. For the drivers it's important what reaches the tarmac. But this is so different from car to car because of the technical details like drive shaft, transmission and so on.

More correct terminology would be:

1 BHP = 0,7355 kW at engine
1 WHP = 07355 kW at wheels

And yes, BHP and WHP are not mathematicly connected. The 0.99 BHP to HP relation is absolutely new to me. Never heard about that. And as you say, would be nonsense. That's different from car to car.

1HP wouldn't be noticeable on a dyno as well. A dyno has quite big tolerances. Especially chassis dyno can messure quite different depending an strap force, room temperature, air flow and so on. You can only really compare run on the same dyno with same strapping and under same environmental conditions. All other are +/- 10 kW I'd say. Depending on quality of work maybe even greater.

Indeed. So 1bph pretty much falls into margin of error territory.
So the takeaway is....no need to lose sleep over it either way. Just go and enjoy the bloody thing :D

The JDM car has 235PS, which is 231HP. The only place where this is different is the US which has 228HP.

Whilst there is a chance the European cars may have less HP, I doubt its 10WHP or PS/KW whatever. There rest of the world still has a secondary cat in the front pipe which is a restriction, the GPF replaces that, it's not an addition to it.

On the old car ditching the secondary catted netted about 6whp, its not a huge restriction. The GPF isn't going to be a total of 16whp loss over a unrestricted pipe.

I do not mean to argue or what but this is the information I received. USDM car gets more BHP than 228 as well.

I truly hope our car has less power drop so that we dont have to do extra mods to gain these power back especially when it seems like there is still no way to cracked the ECU.
