GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Yeah the GR tends to overspeed uphill due to the less nuanced throttle modulation. I also like my previous manual car where I could use the clutch and change gear without CC disengaging.

In terms of where it could be more logical, it's things like the set function only works when CC is on, but not engaged - if you manually change speed due to a change in road speed for eg. you cannot set at the new speed without cancelling first and then setting, because set is the same action as decrease speed. Also the cancel is pulling the stalk towards you, but to resume you don't do the opposite, you instead have to push the stalk up. Plus the whole having to turn it on/off via a side button press is a bit superfluous (though they're not alone in that regard).

All systems have something like that, so I expect it is regulatory, to prevent accidental operation.

Some vehicles (VAG group for example) have (or had, may've changed) a latching switch, so cycling the ignition doesn't automatically reset the CC to off.

Are you sure about this?
I am almost certain that I have always just accelerated with the pedal and nudged the stalk down to SET at the new speed, and it changes.

In which case, how do you reduce the CC speed? Are you saying the same action (stalk down) acts differently whether you are above target speed or at it? Which would also be confusing :p Don't say I'm going to have to look at the manual :p

OK I looked.

Turns out that while SET is labelled down, you can also set it by pressing up (!)
But you're right, you can use - SET to also set speed with CC active. And it also decreases the speed. Key difference is whether the accelerator or brake pedal is also being pressed. If no pedal press = decrease speed. If accel/brake pressed at same time = set new speed. Unless it's not active, in which case it will set a speed either with or without pedals being pressed.

I expect everyone to be exam ready this time tomorrow ;)

I think if you override the CC with the accelerator (say CC is set to 70mph and you accelerate to 75mph) and hit the RESET or SET button it registers it as a new speed setpoint. Can't remember, I don't really use it.

Yes, this is what I thought. I kind of guessed that it just checks if the accelerator is being pressed and changes behaviour to setting the new speed, rather than just nudging the current value down by 1mph.

I use it quite often on the long drive up to my parents. If I'm passing through roadworks at 50MPH, I set the cruise to around 56 (*** tha po-leece, yo). When I get to the end, I just gently accelerate using the pedal (as it speeds up smoother than holding the stalk up) then nudge SET- once I hit 70.

Went back to the detailer for the 6 monthly ‘decontamination’ wash - 14 months of daily use and over 10000 miles driven, and its's back to like new again.

How much were the new mats if you don’t mind me asking?
Hi Paul, they were £67.50 with our forum discount and £7 for delivery. If you delete the heal pad that saves a fiver. There is a thread on here 'Better quality floor mats' that we give you all the details. The mats are really good quality much better than OEM mats. Cheers Tony

Hi. Apologies if I missed it in the other thread. Can someone send me the GR86 logo template to upload to my order please. They look very cool! Thank you .....

Hi no need to send them the logo as they have it. Best way is to email them with your colour, heal pad, logo etc and ask for the GR-ZOO discount. I then just called them and paid over the phone 👍

Thanks Tony, they look great, the OEM ones are certainly flimsy!

Fun drive on Staffordshire B-roads this morning.

This may already be well known but it’s new to me - I found the stock exhaust can pop on downshifts when it gets hot enough - though it’s quite a rare treat! 💥

Also installed Road Hero spare wheel in the boot floor this afternoon - thanks @Sonic for the tips on this forum.

Rear seats and rear side panels out for a bit of shiny treatment. I suppose if one removes the front seats the access would be much better because this was not a fun job to do. Took multiple attempts to refit the panels and getting the metal loop on the seat cushions onto the bracket wasn't easy either.

But, with good work comes good reward, and it appears the sound deadening mats have improved / reduced the road sound in the cabin at most speeds. One mat + offcuts onto each seat area, 4 in each arch.

If the weather holds will have a look at the doors tomorrow. Got a set of old Pioneer speakers from another car, and want to have a peek at fitting them, as I will presumably need an adapter which I don't own.
