GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Took my car out from its cover for the first time since early January, had a drive, rather more ice than I expected .

Swapped out the dealer marqued and drilled ( ) plates for some plain undrilled plates.

Vaguely interesting for a Sunday morning, the dealer used the front plate spacing and drilled both plates at the same time, meaning they missed the drill dimple placement on the rear.

Chatting to a mechanic friend of mine and he says that a lot of dealerships are having trouble getting competent technical staff. A few dealership chains up here have even had ‘open days’ to try and recruit mechanics etc,. Judging by their efforts on your number plate, they still look to be employing nose-picking monkeys 🙈

Pickled up mudflaps from the dealer after they called to advise that they now have them in stock. Still undecided about fitting them, hoping to see them on a car or two at Jap Fest to sway me one way or the other.
I can’t decide either. Always had them on my MR2 since new but never had them fitted to a 5 series and never missed them. Not really sure who they benefit most - me or the car behind?

Connected the Carlinkit 5.0 I’d bought through AliExpress and pleased to report it worked well. I covered about 150 mostly fun miles on some nice roads that were fairly quiet and although it dropped out twice it automatically reconnected quickly. I stopped for fuel and a coffee and on both occasions when I got back in it automatically connected so it looks like £26 well spent. Thanks to those members who shared their views of the product, it was much appreciated.

Adjusted the rear view mirror that had been mentioned, thanks for the heads up about this as it improves the visibility for me slightly and now I only see the mirror and not the mount and mirror, it’s the small things eh! 😂

Finished the day by giving it a good wash to remove the grime and salt. Just 350 miles to go until the 1k mark. 😀

Fitted rear Mudflaps today.
I’d recommended sitting them on a radiator before fitting them.
Trolley jack was too tall to get under front crossmember so will do fronts another day.
I now see why people complain about the wheel nuts. Will definitely get some arp or similar replacements.
Called to Cars n Coffee Liverpool. Was V busy👍🏻

I used to think my favourite roads for the 86 were B-roads.. but at the weekend I had occasion to travel along much smaller, mostly single lane, back roads, and despite being partially flooded, the 86 was perfect. So nimble, and any time sight lines allowed, very quick to nip up to speed and back down again for the next corner. Brilliant.
