GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Mine is next Thursday - 6th November. I brought it forward from 15th Dec (delivery date) as I want to hibernate my car over winter.

🤞
Check, because I looked this up, and your MoT is due 3 years from the registration date on the logbook. I was initially working on the basis that it was 3 years since the delivery date (which was about the 22nd December for me) but my logbook shows the car registered on the 7th. It may be that yours is the same? So you might still be able to get it MOT'd early enough to hibernate it in good time, but not lose a month.

Mine is due 7th of January, will be bringing it forward to before Christmas (and subsequently again following years) to try and space out my insurance, tax, servicing, and MOT as currently it all falls in January. Proper kick in the knackers right after Christmas.

You could always SORN it before 6/11 (ideally tomorrow (31/10) to get another full month road tax back) and MOT it on the day you bring it out of hibernation (ideally 1st of the month to benefit from a full month of road tax).

Same for me, doing mine early in mid November as otherwise everything just lands on the same month.

Would really like to get the insurance moved back/forward a few months either way but not sure how to do that without affecting no claims anniversary etc 🤔

I was going to say that. That’s what I’m going to do next year.
This year my car is SORN from tomorrow

Not to be a buzz kill but for those that SORN their cars, are you aware about what this means from a car insurance perspective?

Yes. I own my car outright and the car is laid up in a locked garage with adequate security. Having no insurance is not an issue. I’ve done it for years for many cars.

Mine is getting done with it's service next month.
Grateful to have my car back today and more grateful still for having warranty cover. (Replacement of the catalyst £3192 !!)
What happened there? That's an unusual thing to have replaced.

EML came on but there was no physical sign of fault anywhere, car running flawless, so they determined it must be the oxygen sensor, they replaced that and a week later the EML reappeared. Back in and they said it must be an internal fault with the catalyst. Replacement approved by Toyota and I got car back today.

For anyone coming across this issue in future/online search, Error code was;

You can downgrade the insurance to TPF&T, or with some policies just F&T (a ‘laid-up’ policy, which still counts towards your NCD), if the refund is worth it. Or cancel/let the insurance lapse - your NCD stays valid for 2 years (sometimes 3 years if you return to the same insurer). Useful if you want to move the date that your insurance bill lands…

Be thankful it wasn’t a Porsche - the combined Cat/GPF has been declared a ‘wear and tear’ filter and is no longer covered under Warranty. I’m reading about multiple 718 owners being billed £7k - £10k for new parts!

Were there any issues with the car having an aftermarket exhaust?
