GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Had to share pics of my latest purchase... A new battery strap from car cottage.co.uk. I was looking for one but didn't want to spend stupid amounts on a Perrin one or Cusco one, and everything on Ali didn't look like it would fit. So I ordered this one in red. Blue and black are also available. It's for a GT86/BRZ but fits no problem and looks great 😃 Speedy delivery and free sweets as well 😁View attachment 37846

Battery Strap

Hi, was impressed with the battery strap so ordered one myself :)
Could'nt have RED as now sold out, you must have had last one

But I noticed the strap crushes down on the battery top-up plugs, did you cut them off or just crush them ?
I decieded to add some rubber pads (4mm) under the strap to avoid the crushing

Also great friedly service with oldcottage

Heemmm not sure tbh - I thought when I installed it that they were going to get crushed or at least not allow the strap to sit flat...
But I remember checking and thought it was ok after all. I'll have another look and check.
If I have accidentally crushed them then your solution is a good one and I have probably got similar padding in the garage - is not like the batteries going to go anywhere in a hurry and I'm sure the crushed lugs wont matter 😄

Glad you're pleased with it btw - I was and it felt good supporting a UK based micro business as well!

Couldn't agree more - I do use mine as my daily driver :p

I've decided 3rd gear is my favourite. So good for roundabout exits/slip roads joining dual carriageways. 2nd gear is a bit too rapid and needs a change at the top end, but if you can roll on from about 20mph you get to enjoy a nice sweep through the rev range with enough time to notice all the different acceleration rates - much more enjoyable than more powerful cars that get up to 70 in just a moment and then you sit there wondering what all the fuss is about.
Agree - 3rd definitely the best. It was heavily used today as I plunged into the more isolated parts of the N Yorks Moors for a walking trip. Sections of the road from Helmsley to Cockayne required judicious use of the lower gears on the narrow, winding track where I was praying there were no vehicles coming the other way. The GR took it all in its stride. What a car.

So I checked.... They didn't look crushed or squashed, but I 3d printed a little riser in abs that inserted into both outer holes and refitted it just incase. Getting the hook near the firewall to engage is a pita!... 🙄

We have our 3 week Japan vacation ahead and for four days we are staying in Takasaki. I wanted to rent a car there and found out that with toyota rental you could pick a specific model and they offered a GR Yaris. I thought, great trying out the street legal rally car in the japanese mountains for a reasonable price. But when I shared my plans in GR Yaris section (maybe some of you saw it) Ecsrobin gave me a heads up to double check if it is a real GR Yaris or just the RS model with an 1,5l engine and cvt transmission.
Well, it was the RS model and I was really bummed out.
After searching half a day I found an other toyota rental shop not far away with GR86 available. So I canceled the Yaris and booked a GR86 with auto transmission.
Now, I am looking forward explore the mountains in a sporty car.
Some destinations on our list are Mount Haruna, D'z Racing cafe garage, Ikaho Toy, Doll and Car museum and further north the craft village Sukawa.
If you have some tips for this region or japan in general, I would appreciate it.

Wow that's so much better than my simple risers and I love the logo as well.... Any chance I could have the STL file please?

GREllie came for her first ride out in the 86. She said she especially enjoyed the downshifts and the overrun when we came off the dual carriageway, but if I wanted to keep her awake, I'd have to stop procrastinating and get booked in for a Turbo kit.

I drove it today - first time in over a week

Had a quick trip in the motorhome to the Black Forest (rain) and then up to Epernay (rain) before another stop at St. Omer (grey skies), so was glad to get back in the GR (it's dry here!)

Day trip in the 86.
Made up a wee song to mark the occassion (to the tune of Day trip to Bangor):

🎶
Didn't we have a wonderful time, the day we drove to Kendal.
Some stops on the way, we had food at Tebay - and all for under a Grand ya know!
🎶

Lovely tune, although I'm a little wounded that you didn't stop to say hello

Ordered a new ‘60aH 540Cca’ battery for the GR86 and dropped off the OEM wheels at XPC (Burntisland) to get a colour change for next Spring.
