GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Took the car for a quick visit to town, where ‘Rocko’ the PDR guy sorted the two bonnet stone dimples in less than 15 minutes. Excellent job, but still £80 poorer 🫤.

I’m worrying about what I’m going to do with my GR86 tomorrow.

Ducktail spoiler has arrived from Japanparts.com - £225 plus £50 custom/VAT/fee stuff - well pleased as it’s the genuine article.

Looking forward to my car looking the way I wanted it to, but not looking forward to drilling holes in her.

just stick it on then. many people did, using the provided 3M stickers (including me), and I've yet to see a report of one flying off

Had a bit of bad luck last weekend when someone keyed across the standard spoiler (about 50cms long). Always hard to photograph but just walking down my path it caught my eye without even intentionally looking at the car... its funny how sometime you just sense something is not right!

Anyhow unbolted it and took it to my ppf installer. He assessed that someone had tried pretty hard to do damage. He said I was lucky it was not on a metal panel as the level of pressure may have dented it. He then got out his dilute isopropyl alcohol mix, a cloth and with a bit of heat did a great job of improving it.

It is now very hard to see it at all . 95% of the time you see nothing. In just the wrong light there is the sense of a very light clearcoat scratch, and I am so, so sensitive to stuff like this. Very impressed with the XPEL fusion self healing properties. I have often wondered if the cost of PPF was worth it or if I just got caught up in the 'forum fever' of folks on here getting it installed. This week very glad I did have it done!

If it was a normal car I would leave it there but luckily the neighbour whose daughters party got out of control and led to a load of drunk 15 year olds hanging out around my car offered to pay for a full fix.

After the year 2 service this morning and realising the tread depth on the tyres were getting a little low, I popped off the drive (gravel) down to the garages near the house (tarmac), where the winter wheels are. Just at the same time as a friendly neighbour came out, who wanted to show me his new jack and windy gun. All four changed in under 30 minutes. Original wheels wrapped back up until I can arrange for a set of tyres and change of colour to occur.

Just need to decide what tyres to go for - whats the brand of choice? Prefer to keep the same 18" size and profile.

GT86 Alloys and Michelin CC tyres and it transforms the look of the car - two years I've not liked those black alloys!

That's timing eh! Nice of them to help out.

As recommended by the Tyre Review channel: Continental Premium Contact 7, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 (I have these in the 225 size on my Summer Bola FLE), or Michelin Pilot Sport 5.

Looks better without the chevron roadsign

😎 You're welcome . . .

I stuck mine on 5700 miles ago. Just buy a roll of genuine 3M. T Cut the areas the tape will contact, so they are grease and polish clean.
Masking tape on the spoiler, and on the boot to help get the absolute final position points bang on.

Either method does have 3M, just remember its unforgiving, once it hits the object it sticks 💯

Well I decided I might as well enjoy the anxiety of doing it with the bolts and the 3M as I didn’t trust myself to align it otherwise..

I can’t say it’s the most enjoyable few hours with the car, but I’m glad it’s over - no dramas, but some squeaky bottom moments (especially drilling the first hole).

I got not instructions but YouTube was great. Fitted my boot strap too. All in all a good day.

Colour match is perfect - it looks odd as the car is filthy from a run out this morning

What really surprised me was the look of her with NO spoiler - I think a nice profile could be achieved with a very minimal panel.

Whats the difference between these and the Sport Contact 7 ?
I'm not certain, every tyre data site had them neck-and-neck. From what I could gather, the Sport is a year older than the Premium; the latter offering a bit more comfort and wet performance, with the Sport being a slightly firmer ride and marginal advantage in dry handling and braking (but the Premium beats it in dry steering response). Guess it'll come down to which tyres have the best wallet advantage and/or discount?

Premium contact isn't as hardcore as the sport contact. Similar to the MPS4 vs MPS4s, or eagle asymmetric 6 vs supersport

I fit my EBC yellow stuff pads today. Or at least the fronts. I ran out of light before I got the rears done. Hopefully I'll have time to fit them tomorrow.

There was still a half decent amount left on the old pads. More than I was expecting. I almost left them in, but having changed them anyway, I'm glad I did. The EBC feel much better.

I'm realising why I feel the braking performance of this car is lacking. These are by far the smallest, weediest, crappiest front brake callipers I've had on a car for about 15 years. Maybe longer 😂.

They feel alright with the new pads but long term I think I'll be upgrading.

A plus of these callipers is that the pads are quite easy to change. Just 2 x 14mm bolts on each corner. The hardest part of the job was sawing up bits of wood that I could drive onto so I could get the jack underneath the car. 😅

The premium contact 6 however was quite a sporty tyre though , outperforming the PS4 (tyrereviews) and I concur have had running both on this car. I'd get the PC6 again in a heartbeat.
I hear the PC7 has gone a bit more touring / less sporty so have avoided. I've gone for the sport contact 7 this time which seem to just to it all, exceptionally well too
