GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Booked it in for its first safety check. Next Tuesday, at Jemca Bracknell. Guess I shall see how they are.

Booked it in to have its summer boots fitted at 9am on 1 April.

Usually I'm lazy and drag my heels with the changeover but, as good as the winter Continental's are, I want this little puppy back on top form asap!

Noticed a deep slash on one of the Michelin sidewalls when I was wheeling them around the garage so I've ordered two new Pilot Sport 4S and will keep the good one as a backup, to go with the normal Pilot Sport 4 I already have which will now become my backup backup :D

At this speed, you might as well get a complete back-up wheel set :D Currently, the biggest upgrade for this car would be 4 sets of wheels for me, to match different conditions.... cost and space bit lacking...

Been optimising my programmable box tuning last days with some AFR tinkering using the MAF signal. Also new FW updates due to for the JB4 as they had a GRC to play with.

That was the plan last year, just never got around to it. This year I'll buy some winter wheels and fit the Continentals to them, then I can change them myself come October, which is what I've done with previous cars.

Do you find it is making tangible improvements? I'm getting an up-to-date map on the DTE once I'm fully familiar with it in its current state. be interesting to see if it makes any difference.

Yes it does. I'm using it mostly for some more top end power, stock will dump fuel (AFR 11) to keep temps down towards redline. Since I have better flowing and more heat resistant cat and other efficiency/cooling improvements, I figure I can keep AFR a bit higher and gain some power. At the same time realising that this engine doesn't have a real EGT sensor AFAIK so not doing anything silly, and keeping an eye on logs under varying conditions...

Seems like the GR way home for next week.

I'd recommend a slight detour for black mountain pass

Hah, it's already on there is you look carefully  There's a dot where I redirected the route down the A4069

Apart from anything else, it avoids Birmingham.

I’m 5 minutes from the end of the M4 if you want a coffee stop. πŸ‘

Yeah, M42 is a total chore of a road!

I haven't yet asked for the day off, because erm, it's the work meet up the day before and whilst they expect me to take four hours to get home, eight might be a bit of a piss take

How do you measure your AFR's?

I am curious what mine does when my favorite map is set on the DTUK.

And @Onehp and @Duke; would you like to share some results on the 50-130 thread (or maybe just 80-120 if you don't want to ask so much from the engine. All data is welcome! πŸ˜ƒ

Another good slight detour would be inland a little from Barmouth in Snowdonia - Mach Loop - where the RAF do low level flying training. If you're lucky you'll see a fighter jet or two. I had a very low Typhoon go right overhead on my maiden GR drive. Scared the s**t out of me.

I discovered it by accident just after moving here. It’s about 25 mins from me, of mostly twisty, gravelly roads made for the GR.

Ah so it is, I always think it's closer to England than it actually is πŸ˜„,

I'm also curious. You need a bluetooth OBD reader with suitable high speed readout and an app on the phone, e.g. Torque Pro. As a bonus they also usually work with e.g. carista. I have a OBDLink. Or a screen like CANchecked, unsure if that logs to a phone also. However do note that boost and MAF signals will be false on a v2.

I use JB4 box with inbuilt logging to a phone app. It did not have much support before but now coming with the GRC in the US, I prefer it because it has best capabilities coupled to OBD readout (it can take in account many more signals as it gets developed more), it is user programmable and very easy logging functionality with true (corrected) boost and MAF values etc. If it's a recommendation remains to be seen and dependant on how it develops.

Your car is uncannily fast. I have quite some hardware (IC w BP, HJS, Intake) and it's about as fast. That said, it's not about not wanting to ask much of the engine, it's the opposite, I ask a lot from it with the right foot, love to rev it out as often as possible, and I want it to stay in one piece long term so not asking as much boost as perhaps possible everywhere...

Thank you for your reply. Yes I've read your tread somewhere about it. And I would have preferred your JB4 box over my DTUK if I have would have known about it ...via OBD Γ‘nd knowing what the box is actually making your engine do, and the best feature; being in control yourselves.

As for finding out the AFR's: I've got a bluetooth or wifi dongle somewhere lying around, and never thought of plugging it in to see if I was able to readout my AFR's because I did not know this was possible! Where does the AFR come from? Our cars don't have standard wideband lambda sensors right?
But if the ECU is registering it somewhere I guess its even better if just plug in Techstream on my laptop and start looking for it. I feel really stupid now...😳
(As for the (real) boost in my case: In the beginning I wanted to connect a temporary boostgauge, but did not go through with it because I didn't want to cut in the original phat vacuum hose. So just left it.)

And I understand your approach when it comes to your mods. I know its better in the long run as your hardware mods provide a better flow and therefore lower temperatures. But I guess it all depends on how often we are really pushing the engine. And as you said you like to rev out as often as you can, so your mods certainly make sense to meπŸ‘πŸ»

My Dragy still has not arrived, but I will when it does :)
