GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Made the most of a rather pleasant day down south, and fed up of being stuck indoors, grabbed my keys and went for a drive then a mooch around my local country park and get some fresh air.

Looks like I picked the best day for it! Happy new year everyone! My resolution is to enjoy the car more this year and get to as many shows and meets as I can.

Wireless CarPlay USB dongle turned up in the post from AliExpress this morning. Forgot who and which post recommended it but thanks to who ever did. Working great and very easy set up.

Collected the front grille piece to replace my pheasant strike.

Unfortunately it’s Eurospec and has parking sensor mounts. Fortunately I spotted the error before I left the dealer and was my fault as I provided the part number but didn’t think there would be a variance.

So a new part will be ordered. Unfortunately, the new part is double the price at £816 versus the £414 for the European spec.

Christ that's steep. Wasn't the Gen 2 bumper designed in more sections to make repair easier (and hopefully cheaper)?! Mad

I just can’t work it out how the same part made in the same factory with just a different mould can be double the price as it’s the same materials.

Yesterday I installed the Forge Motorsport inlet duct. Installation was not that complicated in theory but I encountered some obstacles. First the fitting instructions didn't mention that the MAF sensor wire and the air box pump wire are clipped to the air box with some zip ties. I had to cut them first to remove the air box. Also using the old fasteners to secure the inlet duct is probably a bad idea once they have a certain age. I kept trying to insert one of the old ones to no avail. Those plastic spreaders had deformed permanently. Luckily I still had some new ones at home and with those it worked instantly.
Didn't notice a difference while driving but I know that the air box now gets more fresh and cold air. It also looks cool. That's good enough for me.

Today I drove to the highest mountain in my region to have some fun in the snow. I won't get tired of repeating that this kind of driving is probably the most fun you can have with the car. I hope it gets colder and snows more soon so I can have another go at it :D

And lastly does anyone have some experience with the Engine Sound Enhancement (ESE) and Active Noise Control (ANC) settings of the car? And what are your preferences?

I had them both turned off for a long time just to have it "all natural". After my drive today I used Carista to delete some error codes and I thought why not try out ESE on again? And I must admit that I like it actually. Many of these kind of systems sound horrible but in the Yaris it sounds kinda badass to be honest.
Just don't know if I want to keep it on since I do think it drowns out some exhaust and turbo noises.

I suspect many owners turned these off without hearing them properly because some journalist said they were bad. I had ESE off from the start as the early cars they forgot to fit a fuse after transit. When the fuse was fitted I was happy with the noise it produced.

it has been not so much driving recently with GR. now went out for familiar 100km recce route the other day. Its nice to have a quiet road closeby that has 3 good sections (maybe 25-30km twisty roads in total) to enjoy the car dynamics and environment.

Maybe getting old but its quite tricky car to drive on limit - rear snaps off quickly if you're not ready. Nowadays prefer (wet) summer conditions as there is less surprises with grip, and car can actully deliver its power vs. spinning with all fours on 4th gear in winter.
