I was in an exchange with them today and they were very demeaning saying that they told me about the lack of alarm before final payment and that I should have pulled out if the alarm was so important to me!

I told them they should have read my emails correctly that I did tell them in writing that i was going to purchase the car on the assumption that they were going to do something about it, which was what they gave the impression of at the time. They chose not to respond to that email.

They then said they now put on record that they disagree with my assumption, checked my email records and that I only gave them 30 minutes between sending that qualifying email and making payment. I told them that if they disagreed with such an important assumption, they should have told me even after I’d paid them and offered to refund me by confirming that I misunderstood and the alarm would not be sorted out. It was clear at the time they had no idea and chose not to reply.

I was exchanging emails with them every 5 minutes today and i told them that this shows they had enough time to reply to me if they wanted to…so the excuse of not giving them enough time to clarify before paying them was ridiculous.

I’ve definitely suffered a tone of strong condescension from their emails with some of the exchanges I’ve had.

Regardless of the interaction with the customer unless they’re outright throwing personal insults or threats your priority should be to deal with them in a polite and courteous manner. Based on the state of some of the exchanges I’ve read on this forum they’ve either got an endemic culture of not giving a damn, or the management just so incompetent they’re employing complete and utter mouth breathers for a task that needs a lot more self awareness and finesse than they’re capable of.

I totally understand many on here are annoyed with what has happened with GR86 and not just to do with the alarm situation.

Given that some of you are potentially exploring legal options and or involving trading standards, motor ombudsman etc I ask you to keep private discussions with you and Toyota private.

For members trying to start an anti-Toyota campaign, it's not happening on this forum so please use other platforms if that's what you want to do.

For the cynics, Toyota haven't been in touch, but the tone has changed on here and it's not what this forum was created for.

Finally, don't forget to drive your cars and enjoy what you have.

It seems that since covid some people have forgotten how to work, especially dealers who barely had to have any skillset at all to sell cars during that time apart from posting it online. With that, customer attention & retention don't seem to be their priority anymore.
I might be wrong, but this is the way it seems.

GR Admin-

So you only want pretty stuff about the GR86?

You seemed fine with the parking sensors issue, and were happy to allow all to share info so we could get a result. Yet now its getting a bit ugly with Toyota you don’t want members that are pushing Toyota to detail any contents on the good, bad or ugly side of this particular problem?

Seems a bit off, as in how are we collectively going to help each other if your forbidding the passing of information that may help the GR86 owners move this problem forward?

I've asked everyone to keep private discussions with Toyota private and to not start any anti-Toyota campaigns on this board.
If you value this board, you (that's everyone) will think before you post.

Well, Covid did a lot to people, customers and dealers. It's not only Covid, it's economy, education, political situation and whatever else. People don't search for solutions, they just complain and search for the persons responsible for their problems. They fight against each other. So this is my proposal:

Remember the personal qualities a good human should have, don't start useless fights, beginn to communicate and search for solutions. If you don't understand, just do it. After a while you'll realize you did something positive. And your world will change. I'm old enough to tell you my approach is correct.

Bye for now Fred

PS: Information is always welcome, we just don't need bashing and pointing with fingers on any person with a different understanding. Neutral information is fine.

I'm in the process of obtaining quotes for MrsTheWifes car and just put my reg into that Meerkat site. It comes up with some assumptions about the vehicle . . .

I'm just impressed that a thread I started about Vehicle Security and products in general, has swelled to (at the time of posting) 28 pages. Get in! Gotta be worth an ice cream eh?

Chris Mc, I consider this to be a private information. What you do is your choice, definitively too much (personal) information. Did you realize that when switching the heating and the fan to the max you'll have different perspiring feet?

Bye for now Fred

Not sure if this question falls foul of the request to "keep private conversations private" but has anyone provided evidence of their mileage to Toyota per their request and had a response of any kind?

Out of curiosity, just ran an insurance quote with a factory fitted and approved thatcham alarm and then one without (just factory fitted immobiliser) and there was no difference to insurance premiums in my case. This was compare the market.

Have you tried running a quote with an aftermarket alarm?

I didn’t unfortunately. I’ll see if I can modify.

EDIT: surprising results. there was no option for ‘aftermarket’ it was purely factory fit options but when I selected ‘None’ it made no difference to the premiums. It does make me question how much time people are spending on this (myself included) but can understand the upset.

I did, they then told me to take it to the dealer for condition assessment and valuation.

i told them I wouldn’t be cancelling the contract unless they look at the law on mis representation which indicates that wear is not a consideration. Its a cancelled contract, so the law states your entitled to a full refund.

Yesterday I sent them a notice of action, which gives them 7 days to respond. No response, and its time to pay for the small claims court action. In the action, I’ve asked for a reduction / repayment to offset both the absent alarm system and the auto dim rear view mirror.

Its unfortunate that the admin hear have issues with sharing finer details on actions. Should anyone want a copy then message me a mail address and I’ll forward the notice of action.

Hi @Jayware33 Have you tried giving us a call to run through a quotation for the vehicle at all?

Thanks

Ben

Attempted to fit a Stoplock Pro into the GR86. After beeping the horn at every attempt I realised that the device is too shallow for the steering wheel and it was compressing the centre of the steering wheel. SWMBO even came outside thinking that I was in trouble and was asking for help (bless her). Pro version returned to Amazon and Elite version ordered. Every day is a school day!
