I have had an update from the Omnbudsman who said Toyota offered 250 for me to fit an alarm. They said if I reject this offer then it will be moved to adjudication stage and a decision will be made in 90 days and whatever they decide will be final.

Tongue in cheek, my original request was for them to take the car back (as that was my original request to Toyota GB when they sent off that final email that the they would not fit an alarm, just 1 week after the 1 month deadline where I could return the car!!) Never really expected they would take the car back (which would be great given the choice on the 2nd hand market currently) so it's a question of whether I call it a win and close the case or gamble on the decision of the adjudicator as I have nothing to lose anyway. The amount they offered is probably not enough to fit an alarm and I doubt I'll bother to to fit an alarm anyway given it'll not be integrated with the rest of the system....

My advice would be to continue to adjudication, for the same reason that you mentioned - the amount offered is insufficient to have an alarm supplied and fitted. Also because you have waited patiently after an extended period when a further 90 days is only the end of September.

Maybe my email was meant to be for someone who requested for compensation for lack of alarm, whereas I was asking them to take the car back!!

Only just seen this despite having had the car for 9 months...

I assumed it had an alarm since I checked the vin when I got it and with all the spec sheets and sales brochures saying it did I had no reason to doubt it (even the sticker gave me confidence)

I've raised an email with Toyota so I imagine once they inevitably reject a retrofit and I take it further it'll be probably January before I get some sort of response from the MO

I don’t see what the issue is in sharing your own personal information, if you choose to do so. It’s not like you are contravening any data protection laws or the like.

Why have you taken this stance? What are you concerned about?

I have also received an offer of £250 as a ‘gesture of goodwill’, which I have rejected. I’ve been quoted £700 to fit a Cobra system.
As mentioned above, the spec sheet for my vin states an alarm is fitted.

PF Jones Cobra A4615

PF jones is still the cheapest that I can find online. £168 delivered for the A4615 and 2 ADR tags.

I ordered the additional ADR tags, which means that even if they manage to open the car and drive off, say by keyless repeater, without the ADR tags in range, the Cobra Alarm will sound after 30secs. Won't stop them taking the car but at least will draw attention to it.

The A4615 is a proven Cat 1 upgrade (by adding an alarm to a Cat 2 Immobiliser, which all cars have from factory) *subject to the A4615 being fitted by a thatcham approved installer.

I'm ex-trade, so the install doesn't faze me. I'm not bothered about losing out on the "potential" lower insurance premiums due to it not being fitted by Thatcham approved installer. My own piece of mind is what it's for.

Thanks for that I looked online and found one for £225 plus £100 for nationwide fitting, a bit more like it. Like you, I want an alarm to inform me if the car is being stolen, I know everyone else is likely to ignore it.

We all (I hope) disable or hide our key signal when parking up, but can't the car still be stolen by smashing a window and accessing the port with equipment available on the Internet? No alarm of course to warn of this. Am I just being paranoid or should I be thinking about buying a Denver boot?

On close hold the close button on the fob and hit the middle button twice, disarms keyless. Fob red led blinks 4 times to confirm action.

The next press of any button on your fob wakes the key back up, It can then be used as normal again. Essentially just puts your key to sleep.

Yes, I've been doing this for some time now, but my query was on the OBD port. Apparently, when the car is securely locked and key secure, it's possible to break the driver's side window and plug into the port with available equipment and change settings, key, etc. My insurer sent me details. I've Screenshot it, but that format won't load on this site to show you. The item was written in Jan 2023.
