What will you do regarding rear parking sensors?

Auto driver:
I think the beeps are coming from the rear of the car. However the stereo sound is reduced (not turned off completely ) while reversing so that one can hear the beeps. Sensor beeps given priority.
Sorry I can’t definitely say the manual will be the same in functionality

Picked my 86 up on Monday and not gone anywhere with it since due to the ice, however I did test the rear camera, not deliberately but in what I have done and found:
- day time when I got home from the dealer and it was clean, works really well and very clear (though prob 720p resolution, its certainly no 4K screen!)
- last night i shuffled cars around on the drive and they were covered in ice, i didnt think to clean the camera before getting in the car and the view was very compromised, combine it with dark, and a security light glare I was only confident reversing without getting out and cleaning the camera because I know my drive.
- so in conclusion when I got home MOnday i thought I dont need the sensors and it looks much nicer without them, to now, I will get them fitted when they arrive as I cant be arsed to get out and clean cameras/check behind car/risk reversing into something.

Same scenario moving our range rover which has audio + camera and with the dirty / icy camera the beeps gave that extra level of comfort

all to their own of course and i dont think they're pretyt but pleased to be getting them now

This was exactly my thoughts also.

Ok for the auto we are given option to turn the sound off through settings (Rear auto breaking menu) or I can turn on it off the sensor sound using the button that appears while reversing as seen below. See the rectangle plotted their warning about the obstacle. The camera and lines are independent from the sensor sound.
I.e.
P))) ON/OFF — sensor sound
RAB ON/off — rear auto breaking
I don’t know how these will look for the manual. I imagine you can turn the audio off.

My rear parking sensors were fitted yesterday by Toyota Cheltenham - very kind men called Lee and Rob made sure my car was taken care of.
The sensors aren't the very tidy recessed ones you get one some cars but they still don't spoil the look IMHO - certainly the peace of mind I get from having them is worthwhile over the minor aesthetic differences.

The reversing camera is a welcome addition and I'm glad it's there but the resolution is poor, the perspective is a bit weird (I'm sure I'll get used to that) and just generally the view isn't great even when the camera doesn't have crud on it. It feels a bit like a cheapo aftermarket camera you'd get from Amazon/AliExpress for £3.18. I wouldn't want to bet on it when manoeuvring in tight spots/dark/rain.

I feel the same, for a car released in 2022 the image quality is poor, a decent camera sensor is not expensive nowadays. I'm hoping something will crop up in the aftermarket world to improve it.

I'll have to check mine out next time I'm in it. I've only driven it 4 times (<100 miles) and haven't played about with the menus and screens enough to be truly familiar with what's on them. My son has had time to save his own selection of DAB stations lol.

Hello all,

my 86 is currently "in production" according to the Toyota website and I've emailed my dealer here in Germany regarding the missing parking sensors on my premium MT model. They quoted me EUR 699,00 incl Installation.

after reading this thread I've also emailed Toyota Germany. I'd really like to have the sensors installed, but I'm not willing to pay EUR 699,00 for equipment which was supposed to come as standard when i ordered the car back in march of 2022.

will let you know how it goes...

Update: Looks like us Germans will also be getting parking sensors retro fitted for free. we can choose between sensors or we'll be given a 300 Eur Toyota gift card to be used on services or other accessories etc). Official statement should follow next week.

Considering i already know one person who dinged his rear bumper on a tight spot I will definitely have them installed.

Well done. Asked for mudflaps nee guards in lieu of free of charge sensors and got a no. May be UK will now get the gift card offer. Car is at dealers and I await early March pickup. GR86 Electric Blue manual. Now considering front end PPF and ceramic rest or total ceramic.

I'd recommend PPF down the side sills, only had mine a few weeks and with the dirty sills its clear people's shoes catch on the sill which is quite vulnerable. I PPF'd my sill and very glad I did. (Also the area in front of the rear wheel on the lower sill seems to take all the debris from the front wheel (though Im awaiting a dealer to help get mud flaps for me)
Rear parking sensors Im going for, camera is fine but when its dirty / dark /wet I dont feel confident reversing without getting out and checking behind.

Has anybody had the sensors fitted on a sapphire blue car yet?

I've seen pictures of them on a white car and the color of the sensors don't really match the color of the car all that well. I'm hoping that it's not as obvious on a darker color like sapphire blue.
