What will you do regarding rear parking sensors?

I had mine done today. In short, the rear bumper has to come off and there are templates for drilling the holes as well from the inside out plus extensive instructions from Toyota. It took a couple of hours and the sensors work very well.

I know the dealer's tech well and trust him implicitly and the fit & finish is perfect but he said the template isn't the best so easy to get it wrong. The holes for the dealer fit kit are not pre-drilled and the sensors are different than the factory fitted ones on the USA cars but the bumper has the markings on the inside for the factory kit but I actually think they look more pronounced (see the last pic for comparison).

I had originally bought the official kit from the dealer and they painted them before other forum members mentioned about Toyota's good will of paying for them. I sent TOL an email last week and they agreed to refund me the cost without any hesitation so fair play.

Many thanks for the info and pics. Will chat with my dealer and of course send the email to TGB. Enjoy the car.

Just had email saying will fit and cover the cost and for me to say yes or no so TUK can order the parts, still unsure.
I think I"m going to go for it, it's going to cost me more if I end up reversing into something!
Although will miss the sleek look without sensors.

Who did you email? Maybe they will reply quicker than the boss.

Saying that, the camera has good indication of what is approaching and I think it draws a square on the object one may be about to bump into. The combo works well I think (auto owner here).
Is it possible to see a pic of the factory fitted sensors, my colour is also Electric Blue.

I emailed the address earlier in this thread, and my assigned TOL representative phoned me about an hour later saying it had been passed to her and that she would sort it. If you know who your TOL rep, just call them. If you don't call anyway an ask to speak to whoever has been assigned to sort your order.

I copied in Toyota Online <[email protected]> who came back with the yes.

Hello xxxxx,

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that Toyota will cover the cost of parts and labour for the rear parking sensors as per your request.

We will ask the centre to fit these to the vehicle before handover. Please note the appearance and operation may differ slightly from factory fitted sensors.

If you are happy to proceed, please let me know so that I can order the parts for you.

Kind regards

Holly Roadnight

Many thanks, factory fitted definitely look better.
I got the dealer fit rear sensors on my GT86 as they did not come with them. This was 9 years ago. They had done a good job. I would like to imagine they should be capable of doing the same for the manual cars now. I agree without them the bumper looks cleaner but personally I had two minor dents on my cars in my lifetime. They both involved low bollards and a rear bumpers. So for me it is worth every penny. I even activated reverse auto braking now. Wife also had two accidents involving reversing and once she had destroyed a pushchair. That was devastating for her, to imagine there could have been a child inside!

May look at a number plate surround that has a few sensors in. Thanks for update.

Thanks for the info guys, parking sensors was one of the key things I would have hoped/expected on a new car, camera is fine until winter and dark / wet dirty roads tend to make it very tricky to see smaller obstacles.
Ive sent the email to my TOL contact and fingers crossed, she's been amazing so hope she can help.
Admit the dealer fit isnt the prettiest of the sensors I've seen in my life but better looking than a scratched bumper! :)

Currently debating whether to go for it too. Wouldn't mind if it was a factory fit, but have reservations that the dealer may mess it up.

I've never had a problem with cars that just have a reversing camera in the past (touch wood). Plus the rear looks so much better without the sensors. Decisions, decisions...

I'm not doing it, the factory fit look a lot better in my opinion, also from what I've seen it's camera or radar representation on the screen, not both - is that correct?
Having driven and maneuvered the car a bit I have to say visibility far better than I expected. The ducktail also helps identify exactly where the back of the car is in the mirror - not sure if the standard boot is visible too and gives the same reference point?

I just need to stop using the windscreen wiper stalk to put the car into reverse.
