I have a red one and it looks great. Even at the latest price and especially if you can get it on a 23 plate its good newsšŸ˜ŠšŸ‘

I think the numbered emails went up to 1,000 and then it was ā€œyouā€™re on the listā€.
 
Little OT but checked also from Finland - GR Yaris sales have been stopped and no confirmation when it continues.
IF GR Corolla production is 8600 units, GRY Deliveries could start again H2/23, if they start..?

10% import duty on a car built in Japan 2k
That comes to 27k
Dealer profit ?
add on LSD and the wheels etc on the CP cars , 3k extra doesn't cover that.

Not sure what the GRY costs to build but would suspect its high 20's given its hand-built nature. For comparison, I was chatting to a chap at Palmer Sport recently as they had just sold their BMW M2 fleet after a few years at a profit as they are able to source at cost due to their promotion of Beemers. Turns out the 'factory gate' price on these is Ā£12.5k so don't feel too sorry for the manufacturers and dealers there's clearly huge margins to be had!!
 
Yeah, Iā€™ve said it before, there is zero chance Toyota is losing money on these, even now.

They are not a charity, and most folk severely underestimate the BOM/build cost vs retail ratio.
 
There was a study in Germany from the IFA and a university.

Short:
On average there is
78% cost of manufacturer (material, personal machinery, buildings and so on)
16,5% dealer cost
5,5% profit for manufacturer

That translates to the GR Yaris at German Prices to:
24.000 eur manufacturing
5.000 eur dealer
1.500 eur profit for manufacturer

I talked about that with a friend that does cost calculations for machinery producing companies like Liebherr. He said after researching the production conditions and details auf the GR Yaris he would estimate the manufacturing cost to about 28.000 to 32.000 eur. If this is correct, and he knows the cost calculations of toyota to some degree, this would mean toyota indeed does several thousands of lost each unit.

This was indirectly confirmed by Toyota Australia vice-president of sales and marketing Sean Hanley by saying things like " it put GR on the map... we needed to make a statement about GR in Australia (...) " and asked about the lost " Well I'm going to go there, but I'd rather say they were sold with an investment in the GR brand " and " I'm not going to discuss profit margins. Let me just say the whole GR Yaris strategy was an investment in the GR brand. So no, it wasn't a loss when you look at the totality of what it achieved for us. We invested the money back into the people that wanted these cars and it worked a treat for us. "

Sure there is some marketing telling in it, but the whole strategy makes sense. I am truly thinking the GR Yaris was an investment and was sold at loss to boost brand identity and WRC image. They will benefit from GR Corolla and GR86 sales for sure and take in profit transfered from the GRY.
 
I don't know if they sold at a loss, but there's a good chance they aren't making any profit on them, that's for sure. At least directly.

The Corolla being very similar is also a huge bonus for them. The Yaris did though provide the kind of marketing the Supra should have about GR, and imo there has been much more hype about the GR86 and the GR Corolla since the Yaris dropped.
 
I received a GRY marketing email from Toyota the other day, out of interest asked where I was on the waiting list.

I am number 9476... I think that confirms I will never own a new one šŸ˜… I joined the list on 2nd Jan 2022, it's safe to say demand is certainly not going to be the reason for ending production.

Interesting! Certainly over 10,000 on the list then if you joined a year ago! I guess most wouldnā€™t follow through with an order, not in the current climate at least, but shows demand is there.
 
and around 9-13,000 a year produced I believe its slowed with chip shortages from the planned 1,100 per month to more like 750-900.

Yeah I bet a large number of interested parties will have moved on already and some still lusting will baulk when presented with new new price/finance figures.

All you need is 10% of that list to say yes and thatā€™s a years production allocation gone in a second.
 
I did ask how many people are on the waiting list, the guy didn't know. Just continued to apologise for everything, I think that sums up the situation at the minute.

As above,

The list has been closed for months and with 10,000 on it even with another run of cars (which I think odds are slim) would eat that list up.

If you want a car buy used.

And get one before the inevitable ā€œthatā€™s it folksā€ announcement is made by Toyota.

Still the vast majority of UK cars all above Ā£30K. So grab one ASAP would be my adviceā€¦
