GR Yaris The Latest on GR Yaris (UK waiting list)

Id be happy just to get my first GR...let alone on the list for another!!:ROFLMAO:

Thats just greedy.:p:ROFLMAO:
I only registered as I had very little confidence with my original order, dealership took £1000.00 deposit and then all communication went silent . As many have said I really don't think the GR Yaris will be built. Toyota will cease production this year. Saying that I feel they are holding cars back and there could be more than 25000 GR Yaris's manufactured.

As always this is just my opinion and I have no evidence to back up my post

I'm pretty sure the last of the GR Yarii are going to be the GRMNs.

They had to build 25k of the body shell (which is shared with a 1.5 CVT) for homologation rules, but all that doesn't apply any more. Originally the split was 50/50, so for every GR there was another CVT. It'll be interesting once the cycle is completed to see how many actually got built, the low end could be 12.5k + the GRMN, but in theory they've said they could make 25k GRs, or maybe even more if demand is there

The factory gate price of a standard GR Yaris must be around 20k , throw in 0% finance and there's no way they're making a profit on a hand built designed from scratch car , they were built to rally but as covid killed that why build them when there's a chip shortage, they're in business to make money not make people happy

My standard car was 30k list
Say 20k factory gate price
4k vat
1k Road tax
10% import duty on a car built in Japan 2k
That comes to 27k
Dealer profit ?
add on LSD and the wheels etc on the CP cars , 3k extra doesn't cover that.

It was actually a rule change by the FIA that prevented the GRY from competing in WRC events.

Assuming the VIN numbers we're seeing are sequential and apply to all GR Yaris (CVT, GR & GRMN), and there's no real reason to believe they're not, then Toyota are already at around 20,000 vehicles (highest on the forum tracker is 19409).

Given around 18 months of production that's around 1,100 a month, suggesting they'll only need another 4-5 months to get to 25,000.

Quite a few for sale on Auto trader. Not a fan of the looks of this car but with this and the GR86, buying either of these new is an absolute joke in this country. Ahhh the good old days of 10 years ago when I just walked into the dealer and said I wanted to buy a brand new Gt86 and I had it within a month. And then again in 2017 when I ordered a new one for delivery September 1st of that year and delivered. Times are really shit now. Ita a conspiracy to force everyone to go and buy an EV, I'm convinced.

I think it's all part of conditioning us to expect shyte service in whatever we do, as that's all the big players can do.
For example, local McDonalds had changed from 2 grill order spaces to 7 and the queue is always really long. That just means more people waiting for their order at what used to be sold as 'fast' food.

For the record, my visits are infrequent - honest. ;)

Sorry but no. The waiting game is the same with EVs. We bought a ioniq5 and a eUp for the company. Both took a year to deliver and we had to change colours and trims to even get one.

I am personally not an EV fan. It's a good concept but not for me. But to see EVs as pure evil that bring doom to our combustion world is just wrong.

Venturing off topic fellas that sounds like one for the EV thread...

Will they stop at 25k though? I mean is there any reason that number is valid since the car didnt end up competing in the WRC.

They never said they would stop, people for some weird reason thought they would cos that was the number needed for rally homologation. In fact Toyota specifically said they would build them beyond 25k if demand was there.

They didnt make a mistake with the GRC potential build number, they said simply that they would build one less car than the demand.

Remember that was said before we had a global pandemic which resulted in a worldwide chip shortage.

Sure, but they never changed their tune did they? Ive never seen it written if they did. Happy to be shown an example.

Yeah, IMO the 25k thing is just an artefact of the original, now irrelevant, homologation requirement.

In time-honoured internet style, some have taken this as gospel (they need to build 25k!), others have twisted it to assert things that were never said (it’s a maximum of 25k!), and journalists have read all that and/or mis-represented press release guff out of sheer incompetence/ignorance to reinforce it all.

Toyota will build as many as they can while the factory line is allocated to the build, that’s probably all we can say.

Interesting to read about the wait list, I ordered my GRY in March 21 and now expecting delivery Aug 22, wonder if it would have been quicker to get one via the wait list if signed up 15 months ago . Luckily Ive a GR86 order and was going to drop the GRY for the 86 but Toyota have estimated the 86 will be 2023 despite ordering in c10 mins. So Maybe a GRY for a stop gap before the GR86 wont be a bad way to go :-)
Will be interesting to see how the autotrader prices go, seem to be floating low to high 30s

After the launch I don’t think Toyota have ever mentioned the 25k.

Most cars on the market today have lead times over 6 months and yet Toyota have let their list roll down to 5 months (based off latest delivery dates) at present.

Obviously it’s all speculation from all of us but why wouldn’t you just keep taking orders?

I get what you are saying, there will be people who just put a deposit down knowing that they could throw the towel in at anytime and get their deposit back.
There are many comments about Toyota aren't making money on this car. These comments could well be true. But this car has paved the way for Toyota moving forward.

A big thumbs up to Toyota for giving us our great GR Yaris , taking a hit on all the time, research and development on this car.
I'm still waiting for my car to arrive but I know when I do get it, I won't be disappointed

Thank you Toyota

Hi
I have a KA order number ordered in June 21
Message from dealer today
I just checked on your GR Yaris for an update. The ETA is looking like it will be September at the moment but as I said, this could come forward a bit once the car is out of build or if that are any cancellations.

I’ll check again in a few weeks for a further update.

Shaun

Oooh that’s the first UK ‘K*’ order I’ve seen

I think theyre finding that they are doing pretty well redistributing the cancelled orders into the wait list.

This is good for them in a few ways but not least stops having a massive 12+ month wait time on an order which gets negative press, which is why they can now say they reduced wait times. Smoke and mirrors, but good PR and stops customers feeling let down when dates move.

Also takes the pressure off dealers right though to the factory as customers are not enquiring as to whats going on with their order. Its very light touch.

It also helps cut out the deposits and refunds for the speculators and those who dont want to continue to wait. Less accounting transactions and backward flowing cash flow.

There is no actual selling required by a salesperson now for a GRY. Customers are picked from the list as and when the cars come up and a short 'yes/no' question is all thats needed to ask. If its a no, they move on.

All in all there is no stock holding for the cars, no discounts given and sales progress simply and easily from a list of hot leads. As a salesperson its like living the dream.

Bear in mind that while you can place an order for many cars often the price is not on the web and you must visit a dealer whos only 'sell' is a 'super rare' hardly used one at +20% of new RRP or a used something else on the lot with miles and years on it. Many take this option to 'have a car today'.

In discussions with dealers here Ive been told that the companies and the dealers like this new model as it applies to almost all cars right now, not just GRY. No hard sell, less salespeople, no storing of cars and best of all no discounts. All of this means less cost to them and more profit. See why they like it?
