GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

Potentially so. I'm sure you'll find out at the pearly gates when they press the lift direction button. :devilish:👼
In the meantime, my stepson (a Gunnery Instructor in the RN) enquired via a WhatsApp chat with SWMBO as to what car I was expecting in November. I replied with a photograph and the statement "a Toyota GR86 in Metallic Grey, just like the attached photo".
"Is that a Supra?", came the response from our lad.
Throwing the iPhone back to SWMBO I exclaimed, "how the feck does GR86 spell feckin Supra?! No! It's a feckin Geee AaarrrrR ... Eight feckin Six .. feckin cement heads!" I hope that I got the point across... apaprently the question was from a supposed 'petrol head' in their office 🤦‍♂️

Let’s hope he’s better at identifying targets than cars 😅

Turned the corner to my street and 4 kids on their early teens spotted me from afar and took their mobiles out, I turned into my drive 2 house before their spot. They politely asked if they could take photos of the car and I obliged of course.

This has been a very wholesome thread to read while I should be working. I'm yet to have any comments from strangers, but I'm looking forward to the first, "is it a supra?"

Having come from a FK8 type R, which got loads of attention, good and bad, a black GR86 is quite subtle by comparrison. I once pulled up in a carpark next to a kids play area at the venue for a friend's wedding. As i stepped out and grabbed my suit I heard the following...

Child one: "Woooow! That's the best car in the..."
Child two: "No its not! The best car's a Lamborghini"
Child one again: "That's the second best car in the world"

Thankfully all of my non-car-guy friends and their partners were right there to witness my pride / embarrassment.

Not bad feedback - Toyota should put it on a poster!

Enjoyed these two interactions this week:

Delivery driver: “Nice car. Supra?”
Me: “GR86”
Delivery driver: [looks blank] “I’ve got a Celica”

Petrol station guy: “Nice car, is it a Porsche?”
Me: “Toyota GR86”
Petrol station guy: “You could take the badge off and tell people it’s a Porsche”

Could have easily gone the other way :) they wouldn't have known the difference.....

We have had a few deliveries over the last year or so, and if they ever comment on anything its normally the MR2 rather than the Boxster . Got back from work the other night and my GF said oh the Tesco Driver loved your car, which one? MR2 of course.

I cancelled my 86 in Sept, as was finding it hard to justify that and the Boxster, I am beginning to have second thoughts now and may be time for a swop.

I had a lovely Boxster (986) a few years ago and absolutely loved it, except for the constant nagging in the back of my mind that it was going to go wrong at some point soon, and the the inevitable 4-figure bill to sort it, as every bill seemed to be.
It was a great car to drive but probably too capable with those massive rear tyres, the MX5 was definitely more fun and the GR86 is too.

People complimenting your MR2 are complimenting your good taste. If they were complimenting your Porsche, they'd be complimenting your bank balance. I'd rather people complimented my taste. We're not American.

Not that Porsches aren't nice cars.

Chap behind me at the absolutely rammed Tesco at Carlisle J43 M6 taking (not so) sneaky photos of the car.

Similarly last time I was at this particular Tesco Petrol a chap mentioned he owned a GR86 although was driving another vehicle, didn't chat too long with them though... anyone on here?

Stopped at lights on the A57 near Barton Aerodrome a white Kona N (I think) pulled up behind - I could see the drive checking out the 86. As she went past a short distance later, with a fairly loud, popping exhaust, I received a flash of the hazards.

The day I picked mine up (in December 23) we went for a run for some late lunch, so pulled into our local petrol station to fuel up for the very first time.

As I was just finishing, a van driver was walking past to pay for his diesel.

“Nice Wheels Mate” he said.

“Cheers Mate” I replied.

The wife was pissing herself laughing when I got back into the GR86 after paying - she still quotes the conversation with a pretend deep voice and a giggle.

I have not had a comment like that since I drove my first car - a GT6 - and that was a long time ago.

I kind of think people understand the GR86.

I took mine out on a long drive on Saturday (first long drive in a while) and felt like the car got more attention than ever before….had some kids in a max power style Fiat Punto pointing and staring, had a positive “nice car” comment in the petrol station and had 2 cars blatantly trying to race me (BMW 440i and a Audi Q5) both hot on my tail then when I pulled over proceeded to run level with me then floor it……maybe more of the general public are learning about the car now???

Passed a silver GT86 earlier, gave him a wave...and he waved back! First time I think I've ever had recognition from a previous gen, I am usually a bit timid about doing the whole thing of waving to other owners for fear of being left hanging, so I was glad he reciprocated.

We'll gloss over the fact that half hour later I passed another GT86 and he didn't wave back.

Own it! Waving should express your own joy at being in such a great car - who cares if it's not reciprocated?! :p

I got a comment at work the other day:
"Nice Mazda!"
:censored:
