GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

I had a test drive with an M240i this week (felt like a boat and steering is absolutely unacceptable, I can't believe how disconnected it was).
When I came back to the parking lot, there was another grey GR86 parked (first one ever I've seen in the wild).
I like to believe that the BMW instructor drives it because BMW steering sucks and 1,7 tonnes is normal for a small 3-door so called "ultimate driving machine" nowadays (BMW has lost it completely imo). I regret not asking him whose it was, could've been hilarious if it really was his. When I got back in my car I was convinced there's no other car for me (except a Cayman GTS or GT4), can't believe how good of a car we have. My wife/kids will have to live with it.

Suspect parking on the left one. 😉 I try and park between/ next to cars that have reversed in. It shows at least a confidence in their driving abilities. Bad drivers seem to always drive into spaces. (*unless needing to access the boot then it makes sense. Or if it’s an end space at the left side of a row). Obviously not always a fully accurate measure but it’s one of the ones I use to select a space.

I do the same thing. Right car is mine btw :)
Easier to get out of a parking spot as well. They teach this in law enforcement trainings for a reason.

I was about to declare the in-space parking alignment of the car on the left to be that of a knob, having themselves made boarding and alighting from each vehicle almost impossible without crunching doors - then I realised that the steering wheels are both on the L/H side. I'll get my coat 🧥 ... (sidles off quietly)🤐

This also dawned on me after a few seconds 😌

Mr @Cholmondeley-Biscuitt - getting things the wrong way round since 2023...

;)

Good spot. I didn’t click on the photo so didn’t notice they weren’t UK cars. The one on the left still can’t park. 😂

Spotted a silver GR in my town last week 2 days after the last.
I tried to wave but it was hammering it down and the guy looked like he was in full concentration/don’t crash mode 😂

2 in a week, these cars are getting too common 😂

I was making "significant progress" on a favourite road when a van pulled out slowly and stopped on the other side of the road, as I passed a saw the driver flicking his hand and saying sick bruv

Bloody Kids.

Driving along in a residential area at a very steady mph and, what do we have here? Yes it's the frequently-spotted small group of young urban teenage lads who like to walk very slowly indeed across the road in front of the traffic to demonstrate to themselves, each other, and yes, the unfortunate motorist just how 'hard' they are.

As a relatively placid individual (not to mention someone who has previously worked with challenging young people), I was quite content to slow to a crawl and let them have their 'fun'; which I suppose deprived them of the reaction they perhaps sought.

As they reached the side of the road I began to drive off and one of them decided to step back into the road again (nowhere near my car really, thankfully). As I had my window open I heard another one say, and I quote (and this is the feedback part at last!): "I can't believe you nearly got run over by that shit car".

The cheek!

What could possibly precipitate such robust criticism? Have they been reading our confessions or reality check threads, perhaps?

(Although I definitely* heard one of them say "yeah I can't believe they didn't even fit an alarm, and have you SEEN the quality of the interior plastics?")

*"Definitely" as in "yes it was definitely a work event and not a party"

That and the French I’m lead to believe (and the endless procession of mundane Dacia’s, Renaults, Peugeots & Kia’s on my drive to the south of France would certainly confirm it) place cars somewhere way below wine, cheese, baguette, gauloises and mistresses on their list of preferred expenditures.
Lived there for two years and can confirm all the above! Unless it is a 2CV or a Renault 4- then they are absolutely drooling, but would they never deem to comment.

Got my first petrol station appraisal today, pulled up at a pump next to a guy filling up a van, first thing he said as I got out "That's the brand new GR86 yeah?". Took me aback, as I think that might be the first time someone has correctly identified it from the off rather than thinking it's a Supra. Got to chatting a bit, I said it wasn't brand new, I'd been lucky enough to get one of the first batch so it was nearly a year old already. "Doesn't look it, looks great, nice one :)". Think that's probably the first time I've actually had someone ask me about it.

Am I bad person?
Potentially so. I'm sure you'll find out at the pearly gates when they press the lift direction button. :devilish:👼
In the meantime, my stepson (a Gunnery Instructor in the RN) enquired via a WhatsApp chat with SWMBO as to what car I was expecting in November. I replied with a photograph and the statement "a Toyota GR86 in Metallic Grey, just like the attached photo".
"Is that a Supra?", came the response from our lad.
Throwing the iPhone back to SWMBO I exclaimed, "how the feck does GR86 spell feckin Supra?! No! It's a feckin Geee AaarrrrR ... Eight feckin Six .. feckin cement heads!" I hope that I got the point across... apparently the question was from a supposed 'petrol head' in their office 🤦‍♂️
