GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

(conversation continues out of @Conscript 's earshot)

Guy 2: Yes the owner should definitely ordered a black one, cos they could have given [insert young blokes' charity name here] the £965 they paid for this flat paint
Guy 1: (gradually disappearing from earshot as they walk off) ...and did you hear about the missing alarm and don't even get me started on the lack of suit hooks
They knocked twice more during the rest of the day, I guess they just circle the area hoping to catch people at home. Had that been the conversation, then the moment they rang the doorbell for the second time, they would have been treated to an immediate angry tirade from me "BLACK PAINT IS HARDER TO KEEP CLEAN AND ALARMS ARE USELESS ANYWAY, ACKCHUALLY!"

No alarm means a lighter car #becauseracecar

BLACK PAINT IS HARDER TO KEEP CLEAN
Tell me about it. The GR is my first ever black car. I was swung by images of deep glossy black cars fresh from a full detailing. However given that I would rather drive the car than clean it (although I try to keep it semi-respectable) it typically doesn't roll around with the midnight black look i was hoping for.

I toyed with the idea of Black for much the same reasons, when its freshly detailed they look amazing, but same as your good self I bought it to drive not to look at!!
I opted for white in the end purely for that when it's dirty which it is 80% of the year it just looks a bit angry!! and on the occasion Ive had to resort to a scratch and shine at my local Posh Wash it doesnt show the swirls they meticulously try to inflict on it!!

Young lad in a petrol station was very keen on the car today. He actually new what it was too! I think that's a first 😆

In other news, my team mate rocked up in a black "GR" hire car to our race this weekend, it's quite a nice looking hatch but he doesn't like driving it. It think he just wants to be cool like me.

A very cute little girl, maybe 5 years old came over to me while I was filling up the car with fuel this morning to tell me how much she liked it. She also asked me if it was fast and showed me the bubble-gum her mum had just got her from the shop.

Driving away I kind of wished I'd asked if she wanted to sit behind the wheel, as I know these moments mean a lot to kids. We've got to keep the passion alive for them as they'll probably just have dull electric boxes by the time they're old enough to drive. Maybe next time, but I'll be checking for sticky fingers first 😂

As I actually have both those cars on my drive I can say that the Corolla is certainly not a drivers car but it doesn’t handle too bad.
The CVT is most of the problem but when you are just doing monotonous driving to work then it’s more than enough. 60mpg makes me happy.

@GRistopher Nice, yeah, I once put a disabled kid on my motorbike and him let rev it. It was like receiving a bar of pure gold or thousand dollars to him and me and to his grandparents too. Real nice moment. Love her showing her bubble gum, lol.

Been a busy old weekend!! Chap who is obviously an enthusiast in his ND RF gave me a very vigorous thumbs up on Friday coming home from work, Saturday morning I just twigged a GT that tried to catch me up as I turned right, popped down Clacton way today to see son and a mutual wave with a what I can only describe as Gold GT (not sure if thats a factory colour or not?), and then another mutual wave from a very well sorted GT that looked the mutts nuts (Blue)
And to top it off had a biker pull along side me at a reasonable pace giving me the thumbs up!!

Went out for a drive early this morning and stumbled upon a group supercars in a layby near Ide Hill, with owners standing around, guess they were getting ready to head out in convoy for their morning blast. Saw a Porsche GT3 and a Lambo of some sort sort with a big wing. They were looking my way so I gave them a nod of approval as I passed...I am sure they were well jealous of my ultra rare Toyota, while they were forced to slum it in their common-as-muck VAG jalopies.

Met up with an old mate (known him over 30 years) and some others I've not seen for a couple of years, so who hasn't seen the car in the metal.

Feedback: "Looks great, really sporty looking. Nice and low. Looks far more expensive than 30 grand. Interior's much nicer than I thought it would be. Beautiful looking car. But I wouldn't have had it in that colour myself".

Thirty years of friendship - gone.

We almost crossed each other then 😄 I was there at 6am yesterday.
Stopped at gracious lane for a quick pick before heading home

Wow, yes, I left home about 5.10AM, and I passed them in that car park on the bend of Wheatsheaf Hill just before 6AM or so. We were probably within spitting distance of each other.

I came down Bessels Green Road from Sevenoaks way, and I've passed Gracious Lane hundreds of times but never gone down it. Assumed it would be a really narrow road with big hedgerows, which is never much fun. But I've just had a look on Street view and it looks like it would be a decent stretch of driving road that I could use to skirt around Sevenoaks and back toward Ightam way (another one of my favourite routes takes me through there). Might try that next weekend if I get out.

I really like that road, even though it can be quite narrow at some points. I normally do this route https://referal.roadstr.io/c0RL/agismxu8
If you ever want to do a early Sunday blast at some point let me know 🙂
