GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

Very tall passenger in MX5 (with top down) in inside lane of dual carriageway bent his neck right round to look backwards in outside lane as I came towards the MX5. ObliviouslyMX5’s driver said either here’s a GR86 coming or what da feck is that to the passenger who near broke his neck. Stranger was to unfold as even well before I’d draw up along side the driver with her purple hair hung out of her door window and looked back with biggest thumbs up and smile ever. I did not really know what to do as with wind noise MX5 top down we’d not be able to hear any chat even if I lower my passenger window; so I just raised by hand as when by at about 2 to 3 mph more than them, as traffic moved, lol. Weirdest take I’ve ever had. But good car folk appreciate.

The tail happy nature of this car seems to please lads in their 20s. Usually followed by the "hmm is that a supra?" Look as the slowly drive past in the adjacent lane.

I've recently had the driveway widened (RIP wheels and coilovers money) meaning that I can take the 86 for a drive without moving everything else around and I'm getting a bit more use out of it. I'm not sure if its the looks, the relatively unknown nature of it or the burble from the (admittedly rather fruity) exhaust, but my car gets a LOT of attention. Everyone (usually males between 15 and 30) turns for a second look as I drive past. even at 25MPH. People stare as I'm stopped at junctions or traffic lights with anticipation as though im about to rip up the tarmac. As you might be able to tell from my rather frequent posting in this thread, some will straight-up jizz their pants when they see it. I haven't had a subtle car in years (ever?) but I don't recall any of them getting this much attention - at least not the positive kind. Maybe I'm just more aware of it now. Call me cynical, but there's no way all these folk are thinking, "Oooh that's the successor to the GT86 who's initial allocation sold out in 90 mins and got runner up in eCOTY, narrowly missing 1st place which was taken by the Maserati MC20 supercar. Not a bad result at all."

My theory is that it's the combination of a Subie-rumble and a silhouette that people assume is much more exotic than it actually is.
Is it just me or is this quite common among GR86 drivers? I can only imagine that some nice wheels and a slight drop in ride height would have me fighting off young blokes with a proverbial poo covered stick... heaven... 🤪

Parking up in the field at Ceres Highland Games today I had one of the young lady attendants go “Ooh, that’s lovely…” and although I was suitably dashing in my plaid chinos and tweed waistcoat with neatly ironed pocket square, I’m fairly certain she meant the car and not me 🤔.
Update: On second thoughts, I was sporting some wonderful Bergamot and Mandarin beard oil, partnered with a healthy dose of Acqua Di Parma (Blu Mediterraneo) ‘Bergamotto Di Calabria’, so perhaps she was actually overwhelmed by her own olfactory sensors; not unlike ‘birds’ in the 70s with Hai Karate 🥋 😉

I'm impressed as to how much of that second paragraph was just the name of your toiletries.

Maybe it was just the car airfreshner?

Google translate: A person complemented your car, not your meticulously thought out attire and fragrance.

Just had the car parked up at the Wight Wheels car show. This guy was loving the car. 😀

Twice today. As I got out of the car another car pulled up in a nearby parking slot and the little lad (about 5 or 6) that got out said "ooh look at that" pointing at my car. Then as I got back to my car in a different car park the lady in the car next to me followed me into the gap between the cars and waited for me to get in and said she thought my car was lovely and was looking for something sporty for herself.

When I got mine in March 23 it received quite a bit of attention, couple of young blokes videoing it on the A12, driving through a local town at school out time plenty of pictures taken as I drove by etc, plenty of people taking an interest at Japfest.
All went quiet apart from the odd flash and wave until I put on the Gold Wheels and Burnt Tips exhaust!!
Now it's just crazy!! I had a young bloke run down the road after me when I stopped at a red light to compliment on the car and wheels!!, Came out of Tescos (parked well out the way of door dings!!) and found a young couple taking pictures of it, just car enthusiasts and we had a good chat about it, Tescos again (I only go once a week!!) and a chap with a GT was parked next to me waiting for me to come out as he wants one!! Petrol station on Saturday a young bloke came over and complimented me on the car probably to enthusiastically!! Plenty of flashes and waves out on the road and one even from a GR Yaris!!

You’re lucky that you get to park your GR86 at Tesco; at my local one they’ve resurfaced the entire thing and made the spaces narrower (no doubt to get more cars in), so I daren’t even attempt it during peak shopping days. My Navara pick-up now sits on both white lines and, with mirrors out, actually encroaches into adjacent spaces. I can’t even open the doors if those spaces are occupied, so it’s Asda parking for me … 😕

Did she mean the car, or?!...

Was in the office today, had a Ring doorbell notiifcation. A couple of young guys going door to door for charity, so I didn't answer it at the time. Happened to watch back the recording later though, and heard the conversation between them as they stood waiting with my car behind them.

Guy 1: I like this car.
Guy 2: Oh, that is very nice car.
Me: :D
Guy 1: If I had it, I'd paint it black.
Me: 😠

(conversation continues out of @Conscript 's earshot)

Guy 2: Yes the owner should definitely ordered a black one, cos they could have given [insert young blokes' charity name here] the £965 they paid for this flat paint
Guy 1: (gradually disappearing from earshot as they walk off) ...and did you hear about the missing alarm and don't even get me started on the lack of suit hooks
