GR86 "That's a fresh whip bruv"; or the Toyota GR86 collated feedback thread

So nobody has had the “is that a supra?” Asked yet?
I had that this week, accompanied by puzzlement at what 'BRZ' might mean. The JDM version doesn't have 'Subaru' on the rear, just the badge which people don't always recognise.

Walking back to the car at the far end of a supermarket carpark with my wife, we clocked a gent, would place in his 60’s, getting closer to the car. Given that there was no others around, it was a given he had intent to go up to the GR. Whilst looking at the rear of the GR he turned around to see us walking up and pointed to us and then to the car, I gave a nod and a slight smile whilst pondering what would come next upon arrival at the car. The gents face then lit up and now we were in hearing distance, said “I had to come and look at it as it is stunning”. He knew it was a Toyota and said GT86, after a quick chat he was then furnished with a brief history, how many were made, trump card details of the engine spec and drivetrain. Nice chap who had a range of interesting car including owning a launch year MR2, and like many of us was rather animated about the state the car industry has got itself into (with the help of the Government and Chinese), and that would not want to drive around in a blob mobile.
After 10 minutes we wished him the best and went on our way, walking away he said “it has made his day!”.

“Nice Celica” happened. So, After short correctional conversion, then guys dad said “ah a Subaru with Toyota badge”. So more correct with AE86 Corolla detail context and both RWD guys now full mega fans, lol.

Finally someone recognised what it is - said - it's a GR86 - not supra, not bmw and even took a photo of it.
Maybe soon it'll become a legendary car.

That was an absolutely terrible film though wasn't it.
I actually like it, Shame on me. There are so few films about cars and that one came on during my youth, I know it is a remake too but seeing the cars that I lusted after on the big screen is what I liked, the story is the usual crap though

My local evri delivery driver is a lovely young lad who, when he dropped off a parcel point at it and asked "is that yours?", and when I said yes preceded to tell me all about it, he's dropped something off since and said "I love coming here!". If he comes again I might offer him a ride in it as he was so enthusiastic :)

My Royal Mail postie is a lovely chap and used to chat with me about my previous white BRZ. He's been all over the new blue one and likes looking over it on my drive.

Don't spoil the dream :p

Parking attendant at work today wandered over to take a look at the 86, to be fair to him he knew exactly what he was looking at, as he had the “GR sport” variations of the RAV4 and a Corolla (I think?) - so understood the whole GT to GR branding. He also said to let him know if I was ever selling the “GR” plate my car has on it - I can’t sell it - it’s too good 😂 The supra was mentioned…but it was because we both agreed it was currently out of our price range 😅
