GR86 Reducing Front End Noise

Many thanks - and that's a great idea. Right, that's the same one ordered up and I'll take the same approach, much easier. Have you noticed any difference to the droning? I don't expect it will make much difference to the overall noise until I change the tyres but the lack of the resonance on certain motorway surfaces would be nice.
With the road noise, wind noise and my Cobra exhaust, I couldn't tell ya if it made any difference - the engine bay looks prettier for it though

Hello, I just want to share my experience and confirm that TRD YAMAHA performance dampers (v braces) doesn't make any difference about reduce or delete the resonating noise that we all know. I should folow the advise of ZN8 Zookeeper who told the same time ago in this post...

Just updating this thread. I installed the GR performance damper and door stabilisers on my car today. I can confirm they do absolutely nothing for the front end resonance.
You were absolutely right, but unfortunately I decided to buy anyway those GR performance dampers and... same result as you, they doesn't make any difference about front end resonance, what a shame...

I wonder if those GR performance dampers eliminate the noise? I think they are a direct replacement for those struts and have a damper built it which is meant to improve NVH, presumably not being just a solid bar. they would transmit less noise. Think a couple of people on this forum have them fitted, but can't remember who. Would be good to hear what they think.
No, the GR performance dampers doesn't eliminate this noise, I bought them hoping for it, but it was a fail...

Finally got round to adding silicone hose to the strut bars and torqued to factory 16nm -12ft lb.
We’ll see if any better when it comes out of hibernation next month for annual paint inspection at darkhorse detailing. IMG_0231.webp

There's a couple of new products to keep an eye on.
'Nameless' v bars,

YouTuber, Mike Roadway has been reviewing these and other things he's tried, also posting on GR86.org
He says the noise is similar to having no v bars fitted, but the handling restored to stock.

-post 556 onwards.

Cusco have some new products, including damped v bars.
Whether they are any more effective than the TRD/GR/Yamaha dampers or the STi 'pillow ball' bars remains to be seen.

The Cusco damper is disc springs in a tube, with a nylon friction damper.
It looks similar to something I sketched up a year ago, but never made a prototype. Preloaded polyurethane bushes in a tube providing the spring and damper action.

Anecdotal evidence from the forum would suggest that the best solution to the road noise is changing the tyres to something quieter. I've mentioned before that I have none of the resonating noise from the front any more, but I changed coilovers, top mounts, wheel width, diameter and tryre brand at the same time, so I couldn't highlight which had the greatest effect, although I suspect its a combination of the chunkier sidewall and Goodyears.

I think that what from all this changes you made, coilovers made the big difference... I say this because in my case I tried a lot of things, 17' wheels diameter and softer tires, different type of v-braces, but the humming noise is still there because at the end, what produce this noise in our car is the normal road noise transmmited trough shocks and struts and finaly transmited in to the cabin by the V braces... So I'm sure that another kind of suspension like update coilovers as you did, can make the big difference in this question.

I removed the V bars about a year ago and notice no difference in driving experience other than a better secondary ride and that annoying buzz has gone. Maybe noticeable on track but for day to day cant tell they're gone and the noise is better
Same here. I removed the V bars just before JapFest last year. About a month later I fitted a Cusco strut bar.

Bit of a thread bump but l, I just read a Reddit post of a new owner who said fitting those Nameless strut bars almost completely cured his road noise issues, and was even more effective than an extensive appliance of sound deadening material throughout the car. Worth a try maybe: https://www.reddit.com/r/GR86/s/W81Nx7NVXA

Sounds like it’s worth a go, driving around the concrete section of the M25 is slowly driving me insane. Just ordered some. Will report back once fitted.

Good on you. Be handy to let us know the final costs too, if you don't mind...guessing there might be import charges.

Sod it. I've put in an order as well. Can't find a single review where a massive improvement in road nosie isn't mentioned. Have gone for the black ones though, for a more OEM look.
