What was the increase from the previous year, excess applied and have you got any declared modifications?

paid £500 last year with 0 no claim years (so 1 for this year) and yes i have declared mods - front spitter, ducktail and exhaust. I do have multi discount now though as i've just moved house insurance over so likely got a small discount on car insurance so maybe it would have been £650 ish?

docs say:

Less than 21 years £600 + £300 = £900
Age 21-24 £500 + £300 = £800
me = Over 25 with full UK licence for at least 1 year £350 + £300 = £650
Over 25 with a provisional UK licence or full UK licence held for less than 1 year£500 + £300 = £800

(iii) If you make a claim for Fire and/or Theft, the following excess applies: £350

My first year premium, with 10 years NCD, was £550. My renewal from Toyota Insurance is £900! I'm 51, live in rural Sussex, although I have made a claim and have six points. Compare Meerkats is at £870....

I ended up paying 630£ I think. That's with 10 years NCD, no points, no claims. A few (all of them) mods declared.
I think in my case the fact that I wasn't born in the UK and came over 15 years ago does increase my premium despite never having an accident, claims or points.

£611 for me this year. pretty much what i expected so i'll probs just continue with admiral.

So just called Admiral to sort my home insurance and they offered a £42 discount on the car insurance and £21 on the home so total for both is now £790 . Not too shabby considering home insurance was going to be £350 with existing provider and £611 for the car (£966)

£585 vs £410 last year (3 days free) with Toyota insurance. They beat the comparison sites. Breakdown was additional £60. 10 years ncd no points or incidents. Rural area south east. Who can explain the increase surely not tracking inflation!?

like every other company in the last 12/24 months . Because they can and there's fa we can do about it.

The motor insurance industry were hit with compliance rules early 2022.

Things that used to make them more profit have been stopped be the regulator. Things like auto renewal at a much high cost than using compare sites, has stopped.

So the ins Co’s rather than mugging off daft folk who don’t question renewal costs have now just added the money they have lost, as enhanced premiums for all.

Thankfully Admiral came through, their renewal was already 10% cheaper than comparison sites and i was able to knock £150 off that with a few small policy tweaks (removal of additional driver who’d previously made it cheaper). In the end only a 10-15% increase on last year which I can’t argue with.

Scary landscape out there though. Quoted on an M4 CS (amongst others - always looking!) and didn’t return a quote south of £4k!! 36yr old with no claims or points and ended up paying £530 on the GR…

My renewal just landed… £331 with protected no claims

£500 excess though

Just went through the whole rigmarole of setting up a brand new email account and running some comparison quotes. Paid £1800 in March ‘23 but have had two non fault claims since then.

Coming back at £2500 keeping everything else the same. Played about with job title but nothing that made sense worked out cheaper. Adding my dad on who has been driving for 35+ years and has a clean record increased it by £1k(!).

Hopefully will go down a bit when multicar discount is applied, and will also try the specialists (Brentacre, Adrian Flux etc) when actual renewal date comes around.

have you tried to look at a quote through us as of yet?

if you haven't then it would definitely be worth a shot, we also over multi car policies etc so might work out quite well!

Cheers

Blimey, that's madness. Would hiking your excess make much of a difference?

I’ll give you guys a try when I’m within the actual renewal window as usually when I try getting a prospective quote from individual companies and my insurance isn’t due for 3 months I’m told there’s no point! 😂

Promising start with Howdens for me - the GR86 renewal isn’t due yet but they’ve set up a multi car policy for me with a view to bringing my entire fleet onto it when they’re due.

My two modern classic Rovers have come in at HALF of Adrian Flux’s renewal (and less than the much more reasonable amount I paid them last year!), with lower excesses and a better policy to boot. Ben was also thoroughly decent to deal with.

it was a pleasure dealing with it for you, I'm glad we could get something sorted.

No doubt can get the GR86 and Lotus on as and when they are up for renewal.

Thanks

Ben Litchfield
