GR86 Insurance

Just wondering if any of the early adopters have checked renewal quotes? I paid a. Bit more than £600 last year but then I went for it as I could add non performance mods. Slightly afraid after reading of soaring insurance costs affecting many cars and ours being on a high insurance group
Mine was renewed last week, Hastings £380 £150 excess, remark and spoiler declared.

weymouth, garage, 19 years NCD, 63 years young.

£809, Hastings with £645 total excess. 9k miles on driveway. I didn't think that's too bad being 23 with 3 years no claims

I should be expecting a renewal at the start of next month I think. I'm with Chris Knott, premium about £500 with a declared catback - but they already sent a marketing email a couple of months ago pretty much saying "everyone's insurance is going up", so I am dreading it to be honest.

The broad church of GR86 ownership right there!

(Much respect to you both for a) being able to buy and run a brand-new sports car and b) being able to get in and out of said sports car. I'll let you work out which one's which! ;) )

Hi All!

We have recently joined the forum to support with insurance for members. We have no issues with modifications and offer track day insurance and multi vehicle policies for your specialist cars and daily drivers.

if you would like us to take a look then please give us a call in the Thatcham branch and mention GR-Zoo (01635 874646) really important that you don't just call your local Howden branch as the club schemes are with the specialist vehicle centre in Thatcham only.

Here to help if you have any questions, my inbox is open. :)

Any thoughts on the implications of our cars having no alarm system?

I just got my renewal notice from Admiral multicar.

£850 ! I'm in my 50s. 10 years protected no claims, garaged, 8k miles and my wife has 3 points.

The best I can seem to get elsewhere is £600 from AA.
Replying to my own post because I managed to knock Admiral down to £700 after a bit of haggling.

It still stings a bit when they insure my air cooled 911 for £300 but that's the only area where the Porsche is cheaper!

Ooof. Sounds like the typical screwing over of existing customers. I ended up with Admiral on a new policy as they quoted the cheapest at £620. I'm 32, 0 no claims (in use on other car), driveway, 8k miles.

Not entirely sure what you mean by no alarm system. do you mean no aftermarket or enhanced security?

We would always record what factory alarm systems vehicles have(Alarm or immobiliser) when questioning what security is in place :)

Thanks

Ben
Well you might want to peruse this thread:
The gist of it is that Toyota don't seem to exactly know if it has an alarm fitted or not but originally told us all it that it did...
Consensus seems to be that it only has an immobiliser from the factory.

interesting! what I would say is that generally, we always ask what standard security the vehicle would have from factory, the reason for this is that some of our specialist insurers require an extra level of security such as trackers etc!

Toyota and my dealer have confirmed UK models have no alarm, either activated or not. No amount of tinkering with OBD will change this. They do however have an immobilizer fitted though.

The quote for me from LV for a 86 was almost 3 times what I pay for my 718 Boxster! - I have maximum no claims and zero points

I came searching for this thread after and interesting call with my insurer... (Adrian Flux)

Current fleet is a Westfield, - 6 years NCB - about £130 a year.

Silly modified Hilux, Lexus VVTi V8 swap, totally changed suspension, brakes, wheels tyres, crammed A4 page of declared modifications and utterly terrifying to drive, - 17 years NCB - £550ish. Including commuting to multiple sites for work

Perpetually broken Camaro that I've not even driven myself yet isn't insured :ROFLMAO:

Stock GR86? - Even with the no claims robbed from the Westfield. - £2500!
I'm 43, live in sleepy south Oxfordshire, no points.

Luckily Admiral came in at £575 for the "gold" policy. Including an exhaust. - would have been nice to keep everything from one supplier though.

Crazy, isn't it. My LV Multi Car (2 cars) insurance renews this week was up 38% on last year. When I called them wanting to remove one car and add an 86 they quoted me in excess of £2000 rather than the £550 i was paying.

Fully Comp, SD&P, Modified Exhaust (Road Legal), 58years old, 11y NCD protected, Driveway parked, Zero Voluntary Excess. Cited £560 with 'QMH+' for myself and wife (as named driver) with £0 voluntary & £0 Compulsory Excesses. The RAC came cheaper but with a £350 Comp Excess. Adrian Flux wanted a £500 excess.
Cheaper quotes with wife as additional driver, so SWMBO's on the books - not that she'll be driving it of course! ;)
