GR86 Insurance

My new shape Type R is due for renewal in a couple of weeks.

The old (FK8 2021) was £137 last year, and when I changed to the FL5 in March they wanted a pro-rata £250 (no change fees, just additional premium) and renewal came in at £362. Best quote last night was £255 (£800xs!!) but this had increased to £410 an hour later when I came back to take that one - WTF

Insurance companies are just really taking the michael
Check your emails and see if you ticked the option for communication, if so, they email you your 'highest quote', ring them up using that ref or click the link to insurers website straight from the email.

This happened to me once and I managed to get the cheaper price as quotes are valid for a certain number of days, or they used to be at least. Worth a shot.

A friend works in IT, a few years back he did x2 searches on the motor insurance supermarkets.

With VPN, and without VPN.

The quotes with VPN were 25% less, so there must be a loading both on your post code AND your IP addy location. Might be work a play, if you have a VPN 🤷‍♂️

As long as you have a quote (sent to your e-mail for example) it is valid for that price for at least a day.

Like others, I'm surprised at the quotes I am getting for the 86 at present, though reading other threads parts are crazy expensive.

3rd car, 5k miles a year SDP only, 20+ years NCB, no points/convictions.

£400+, with £800 excess.

There doesn't seem to be a forum affiliate insurer.

Who are people using please?

Although I've used Aviva for a number of years, they were very uncompetitive for the GR, so after many comparisons (they all give different results), I ended up with Churchill. £353 with full no claims and a rural location (55 year old male, with MrsTheWife as named driver). I added my exhaust mod and there was no change to the premium and no charge for the amendment.

Thats worth knowing. I currently have an LV multi car and was just going to add the GR when is comes (so 3 cars for a short while) but they are shocking expensive. I am same age and full NCB as well.

Pleased to discover today that the annual premium for the 86 was only £5 more than my erstwhile GR Yaris. Seems the cost is maybe normalising a bit...

I got a quote for £590 from Hastings 😱. I’ll be calling admiral when I have the reg for a quote to add to my multi car, but I hope it’s significantly less than that.

I can't say about a multi-car policy but that sounds about right for a single quote. Biggest issue for me with the 86 is the crazy group 45 insurance rating.

Do those ratings ever shift, or is it in that group forever? It will make it the 2nd most expensive premium on the policy and the 2nd slowest & cheapest overall out of the 5. So it seems slightly mental to me!

I don't know if they get routinely reassessed. They were all over the place initially, it was in group 50 at one point.
It seems barmy.

Hopefully the rating does come down as more of them are sold in the UK. If spares are easier to come by then that should, in theory, drop the grouping a little bit more. Whether they actually reassess it any time soon is another story.

Gosh stuff gone up. Bearing in mind mine has been modified.

Last years multicar policy was £494. Up to £907 this year.

Multi car cost for mine is £520 which I think is absurd.

If I go it alone the cheapest I could find was £1100.

Thats at 34, 16 yrs NCD, no convictions etc.

I'd honestly sell the car or just sorn it for a while if I had to pay £1100. Absolutely insane costs.

Shits bonkers with insurance at the moment. My policy before the GR86 was added went from £1.7k to £3.5k at renewal. Managed to talk them back down to £2.3k

Admiral multicar came out at £445 in the end to add the 86.

So, having collected mine on Wednesday I needed to sort the insurance for after the 3 days drive-away cover.
Transferred my current policy from a group 9 Fiesta for a surprisingly reasonable £79 with Hastings Direct (+20 quid admin fee).
There's about 9 months still to run, 2 additional named drivers, 3rd party on any car and the last renewal was £280 (including breakdown cover which I've removed for the 86).
The only other change was they increased the compulsory excess from £45 to £200.

Interestingly I've just added my dad's Suzuki Swift to my policy and with no NCB on that car it was £122 to add it for the remaining 300+ days. That's actually less than was paying with full NCB with his last company. The tax was worse being £200 for a year so got £110 for 6mths instead. I'll use it for winter and GR86 for the nicer months.

Just wondering if any of the early adopters have checked renewal quotes? I paid a. Bit more than £600 last year but then I went for it as I could add non performance mods. Slightly afraid after reading of soaring insurance costs affecting many cars and ours being on a high insurance group
