GR Yaris Hit and run :(

Hi all,

Thank you all so much for the updates and thank you @AdamCrs for finding the guys business page.

Certainly is suspicious that it was sold last week. However I posted the video on the Nextdoor app and 2 people believe they’ve spotted the trailer parked up on a street 10 minutes away. When they checked again this morning it was gone but they recognised it by the damaged white Jag still being on top of the trailer. Im going to take a gander after work today to see if it’s there and speak to the neighbouring houses on if it’s familiar.

I’ve also submitted the V888 form off to DVLA to find out about the latest registered keeper. What I get back will be interesting, as I do wonder if I will indeed get all the up to date information if it was sold only a week ago. If that is the truth that is…

The address on the yell listing appears to be a residential one. Not exactly glamorous, but it does have a letterbox…

That said, aren’t your insurers dealing with it, they should have no issue identifying the registered keeper and lodging a claim against their insurer, surely?

You would think so. When I called the first thing they wanted to do was to claim of my own policy. When I asked why they said “it takes too long to chase the 3rd party so we claim off your policy and chase the 3rd party in the background” I argued saying I want them to contact the 3rd party insurer first because the evidence is undeniable and I don’t want my premiums to sky rocket. Response I got was “ well fine if you wanna do it like that then” 🤣 following that they said they couldn’t find the 3rd party insurer at the time. 5 mins and £10 later on the ask MID website I managed to get hold of it! Sent them off to my insurer.

So I’m waiting on my insurance to hear back from them, also waiting for the police to investigate too.

Some positive news, I’ve managed to contact the business who were the previous owners of the vehicle. He said it was sold last week on Tuesday and will be providing me with all the details of the person he sold it to as soon as he returns home. Now that I think about it, it would make sense that someone new to this type of vehicle could make such a disastrous job of driving it.

I’ll update when the details are sent to me and if I see the vehicle on the street someone claimed to spot it on.

Have you considered contacting one of the Claims Management companies such as MotorClaimsLine (I have no experience with them just an example) and let them do all the running around?

I think with all the evidence and information you already have they would be best placed to do all the running around and have the contacts to get you a resolution.

So sorry to see that @Usman224 . Seeing how inconsiderate people can be like that makes my blood boil - can't imagine how you must be feeling. Hope you get a good outcome.

More of an update. I posted the video on an app called Nextdoor and a couple of people have come forward saying that the owner lives at an address that is a 3 minute walk from me. I went to have a look after work and the trailer wasn’t there.

HOWEVER I asked a neighbour and they confirmed that the trailer did belong to the owners of the address. He said “aaaahhhh man that’s awkward” so I belive he might be a friend.

On top of that my grandad went to see some friends in the area and they all confirmed the SAME address.

Here’s the interesting part, the screenshot of what the business owner sent me was this:

I’ve blanked the trader address and name for the sake of keeping data anonymous. But the details are literally across the city from where numerous people have seen it parked up close to where I live. Also I noticed that the date of sale was the day before the incident and not on the 9th of Jan as he stated. And on top of that the keeper details contact email address at the bottom was the email address he was emailing me from. So something is suspicious I feel but I could be wrong.

To top it all off when I checked the vehicles insurance 2 days ago it was confirmed insured. When I check just now it’s coming up as uninsured. So I’m sure someone is trying to cover it up.

Not entirely/directly relevant to your situation @Usman224 , but the MOT history of the offending vehicle makes for interesting reading...

I think he is lying to you, and the only reason for that is because he is guilty.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the date Usman mentions was the furthest date back you can back date a sale on the system. Hence it being the 16th, not the 9th, and the reason for no logbook issue is because that entry was made today.

What a ball-ache.

I can only reiterate that I hope you get it all sorted to your satisfaction @Usman224 .

It's incidents like this that are one of the reasons why we all are paying so much for our car insurance (those of us that bother paying it anyway).

Hi Guys,
bit of an update for you all

I was working today and a member of the public knocked my door claiming they spotted the trailer after doing some deliveries in the area. They gave the the exact location of the trailer. I left immediately and there it was!

About a 30 minute walk away from where I live so must be sort of local. Vehicle is untaxed and uninsured parked on the road.
I then called the police on 101 where the contact center said he'll forward the details to who evers looking at the case.
Following this I went online on the police web chat to let them know and well.... you can see from the transcript on how that went...

So it seems that the police have NO INTEREST in a vehicle that speeds away after a collision, even after when you've done all the leg work for them and hand it on a plate!
Were not even interested in knowing the location at all :(
I'll be informing my insurance company tomorrow but I'm abit lost now. Police clearly have no interest in looking into it further.

Just tell them the owner posted some naughty memes on Twitter, I'm sure they'll be there within twenty minutes.

To be honest, I think she's confused by the whole untaxed and uninsured thing. I assume you've got a crime number, I'd go with that and tell them you've found the vehicle that was involved with the hit and run, and the owner is surely nearby. She's just got stuck in the script for untaxed and uninsured and you're dealing with the Police and they get distracted by things very easily.

In theory all they'd need to do is go and knock on some doors, surely?

I know, I know, you can't do that from a computer and that sounds like Police work.

I suppose you could possibly scope out the area a bit, and see if there's any locals coming and going who might know where the owner lives. I mean, going to be a bloke for sure, so maybe ask a not a bloke lol, might be able to narrow down the house.

The one thing to consider though given it's been uninsured, and without tax, is that you're unlikely to be dealing with an insurance company anyway. I guess this more a mucking them up thing, but could at least report the untaxed/uninsured vehicle to the DVLA. They might come out and clamp it.
