Hi all,
Another update!
Got a call while I was at work and it was the police. It looks like they actually went out to take a look since someone else put a report in, but saw on their logs that I got in contact yesterday.
They went to go take a look if the trailer was still there and it was. They then said that as its not over 21 days untaxed they can't take the vehicle.
They also acknowledged that while it was involved in a crime, as nobody was injured they're treating it as a minor collision. If anyone WAS injured and they drove away that's when they would have taken it immediately.
As well as this, as the car is untaxed and uninsured BUT registered to a trade account they can't take the vehicle (that one goes over my head tbh).
They did apologise for not being able to do anything and he did claim that he tried to get the car taken but didn't have the grounds to do so as he was only a part of the neighborhood police team. He said he is going to be updating my case log with the location of the vehicle and his findings and inform the traffic investigation unit so they are informed.
So seems that if enough people call in about it they actually do go take a look. Not much I can do now other than sit and wait for the insurance and traffic investigation unit to do what they need to do. I haven't heard from my insurer for about a week so i'm assuming the third party hasn't responded yet.
The question now is.... Do I claim off my own policy (they confirmed it will be a non-fault claim so no claims is protected) and just get the ball rolling on getting the car sorted? OR sit and wait for someone to pull their finger out? Just worried about my premiums if I do claim off my policy..... Thoughts?
