Been a while, good news is that after about a month the car is now back and looking great

Can’t fault the body shop that did it, they treated me well and kept me in the loop at every stage. Took the opportunity to put a fresh set of tires on as they were replacing the front passenger tyre anyway.
I had to fork out the excess to get the job done which was £700, but I just didn’t want it sitting on the drive damaged any longer. And I’ll be honest £700 excess was better to pay than the almost £11k quote so used that as my coping mechanism
Bad news, police are still refusing to give me an update and just keep giving me the usually line of “it’s being looked at by the traffic’s investigation team” any effort to chase that team I’m just told they don’t speak to members of the public - so I take that as them telling me they don’t wanna know.
Insurance wise, it’s turned into a nightmare as the previous owner is providing different details each week for the individual he sold it to (apparently). They’ve said whenever they recoup the cost then I’ll receive my excess back, however I’m very sceptical this will ever happen. Speaking to some people in the trade over the few weeks and this is known to be a strategy to get away with it. Only thing I can do is just phone my insurance up for updates/just sit and wait to see what happens.
My attempts with the DVLA to get the vehicle owner information via V888 form have been rejected as I do not have enough evidence and due cause for the information :/
Just happy the cars back and healthy now, gunna treat it to a nice detail in the summer and try to forget this happened. If anything DOES happen via insurance I’ll let you guys know, but I think it’s highly unlikely.
Appreciate all the support and assistance I’ve received over this so thank you. Think we all learned why quotes have skyrocketed recently
