Got today the HRNSHN Brake Cooling kit for GR Yaris.
Overall happy to get the great brake cooling ducts from the front to finally working - as they were left halfway from the factory.
Now with ti backing plates stock brakes should tolerate proper heat (not that I track the car that much!)
Did also a Timelapse on the install. Few comments on the kit and install
The kit:
- Kit as a part build is nice engineering, laser cut parts and brake air channel to fender is 3d printed. Channel it self is not that large, hose diameter is 2'' (51mm) but maybe it is sufficient.
- Kit has few drawbacks - no biggie but the zip ties provided were too short so replaced them with bigger ones. also the brake cooling hoses (wired ones) were little too tightly fitted - 1-2cm longer would not have been bad in terms of easier install. In addition, the laser cut parts that mount on the hub side should maybe have something to mechanically fasten the wired hose in its place - now the surface is smooth and even though the hose is thighly fitted it can still be pulled off quite easily as there is no surface against it would hinge itself when tighten.. Was thinking of drilling additional holes and add rivets but thought it to be too much of an hassle and left it as it is. Maybe next time if it becomes loose.
From the assembly:
- I had real struggle with first side install to get the wired cooling hose in its place as installed first the 3d part and then the disc end piece. Install will be MUCH easier if you first assembly the whole package with wire hose and then just bolt it in - did this to the other side and it was maybe 4x faster than the first.
- the 3d printed pipe will need to be mounted to the inner fender wall with a "rivet' - that needs an additional hole to be created. not that biggie as fender wall is really shallow but that is not there.
Tools you need are
- 9mm (?) socket for the air channel screws
- 17mm socket for the brake caliber bolts in which the hub part mounts
- screwdriver / drill to pinch a hole into fender for additional mount
- patience in getting the wired hose tightly mounted from its both ends
