GR86 GR86 Gear Knob Thread

I've just fitted this Billetworkz hybrid gear knob. It looks better in the car than I expected. It was also the quickest thing to fit. Even quicker than my car mats. Nice to have something easy to do for a change.

And nicely finished off my current 86 budget!
Looking to get this, is it a transfer? Or is it a whole button face that sticks on top of the blank? @Joolone

Do you have a link? Lots of vendors have the GT86 version that may have a slight curve on it?

This is their website, but I did buy from them on Etsy.

It does not cover the whole blank button. Only what you see is stuck down, just the black design. It's very good.

Tempted to give a Billetworkz knob a try, see if the extra weight makes a difference. Was looking at the short teardrop shape as it doesn't require a lockout adapter. For anyone who has one, how does the shape compare with the OEM knob? I want to try heavier, but I like the shape of the OEM.

Also, are import fees inevitable when ordering from them? Might hold off and see if they do a Black Friday sale.

I have the short teardrop in bright blue (see earlier post here) and find it easier to 'flick' into gear than the OEM one because of its extra weight. In the hand I've not really thought anything of the shape; apart from it's fookin' cold in Winter and like lava in the Summer, so stick a sock on it ;)

No import fees to pay if the goods themselves are for personal use and under £135. Postage fees are not included as part of the £135, just the goods. I think mine was $55(?) for shipping with the knob being around $90 - so shipping is relatively expensive by comparison! No extra charges paid.

Thanks. I am considering whether to get one in that blue to match the exterior paint, or just to go with either black or polished metal.

I have the titanium short tear drop [silver GR86] - £174!!!! Hard to justify but no regrets

Rumour has it the Billetworkz Black Friday sale starts next week and I want to treat myself to a new knob, but am still undecided :D

I was all set for getting the hyper blue short teardrop, but still thinking it might be a bit extravagant for me. Plus, although I like the idea of a weighted knob to help smooth out shifts, I can't help thinking of my previous experience where the extra weight made things smoother, but felt more cumbersome.

I'm now leaning more to the titanium knob which adds a little weight, but not as much as the weighted custom knobs. Think its 250g rather than 450g (stock is 200g). But I also want to add engraving of a shift pattern and GR logo for the OEM+ look.

20% off email arrived from Billetworkz today. I love my black ball, could not recommend the products highly enough. The weight really helps with shifting through the box.

I've just been looking at the titanium, but I'd also have liked the shift pattern with the logo, I was waiting to see if any discounts

Their sale started today which coincided with my payday, so I ordered this morning. Brushed titanium short teardrop with shift pattern and GR logo. £156.72 with delivery....on a gearknob. What am I doing with my life. Guessing that I'll also be hit with some important fees too.

Still, at least I'll have a nice shiny knob.

It's here! I was quite shocked, I was expecting a bit of a wait for it to be made and shipped from the US. But I ordered it Monday morning, got a dispatch notification that evening, a delivery estimate for Thursday...and then it turned up today about lunchtime. Cracking service, faster than I've had stuff delivered from some UK vendors. No mention about any extra import fees either, hoping I've avoided them...

Quality is immaculate. Beautifully finished. Weighs in at 241g alone, 260g with it's insert and lock nut. My stock knob weighed 199g.

Took a little adjustment of the insert and lock nut to get the logo lined up, but looks great. I've only sat and fondled it at a standstill for now, but I might find an excuse to pop out for a quick driver later when the traffic has died down. Hoping just a little extra weight will make the box feel a little smoother. And size wise, I like that it's pretty much identical to the stock knob....just a little less bulbous (fnnnaaaarrr!).

And yes, I've installed a metal knob just when the first proper frost of the year is forecast for tomorrow mornings commute. Must remember some gloves.

Pop a Gearshift Hoodie on it, you’ll be reet. Either that or a nice Christmas Sock …😉

Surely that doesn't keep it warm overnight, though? It's not like there any innate heat a hoody will keep in, so in the morning its still all going to be freezing cold. Or do you just rest your hand on the hoody until it's warmed up?

Anyway I just popped out for a drive. It's already pretty cold to touch, but seems to warm up after a few mins, I guess it's better in that regard than the fully weighted ones, less mass. It takes a little getting used to...it's about the same size as the stock knob but has a smoother finish so I'm a little worried about not getting a good grip (heheher). But it does feel like the shifts are a smoother, as hoped.

You're correct - the hoodie does nothing to retain any form of residual heat in the Winter (but it does stop it reaching the temperature of Lava in the Summer). A sock works better as it's easier to leave it on for a while until the cabin has warmed up a little. Don't use your favourite sock though; I made that mistake and whilst detailing the car one day it accidentally fell onto the ground and shattered ... 🤪
