GR86 GR86- Cars for sale - General Discussion

Yeah I’m sceptical of them selling at that tbh, I don’t think it’s the flippers dream some thought it would be. You’re getting your pants pulled down at 38k and a lot of buyers know that.
Joe Bloggs will take the 10% finance and if you do have 38k burning a hole in your pocket you’d be better off putting it down on a Cayman or Alpine and stumping up the rest or taking a loan.

I swapped cars with my mate a few years back when we done the NC500 and had a go in his Cayman R and it was brilliant, he has a Cayman T now and it’s also absolutely brilliant to drive, made me want one but not sure I could go for a 2.0 Porsche, maybe a 981. Obviously running costs will be different but if you’re prepared to get pumped to the tune of £8000 then that should be the least of your concerns. This is nothing against the GR86 as it’s a brilliant car it’s just the market pricing the GR86 in the region of more senior sports cars at which point you have to question the value, once flipped it’s still a secondhand car.

We won’t be flipping ours, like most buyers.
For me, there’s nothing comparable as a new car purchase. Of course when you get to comparing to used cars all bets are off.

What would I buy for 30k second hand?
We’ll, I’d never buy a 2.0 turbo cayman/boxster. Competent car but not for me, plus chap at work just sold one. It recently needed 23k of warranty work on turbos and pdk box at 3 years old……
The newer (981) 6cyl manual ones are still expensive, I think an early 2.7/2.9 manual cayman is a good long term keeper at 15-25k, especially an early 2.7 that’s been well looked after with lots of stuff replaced for about 15k. They aren’t losing money any time soon. Buying up all of those and putting them away somewhere wouldn’t be the worst idea…
I like the lotus evora too, they can be had for 30k…for a 12 year old one. These have been holding well for a while.
Maybe an early M2. Risk of being stabbed in my own bedroom running German chav magnets like that though unfortunately.

Guilia quadrifoglio at 40k is a good long term prospect too due to being awesome, but it’s a different kind of car.

Maybe I’d go older and get a 70’s Alfa guilia 105 series car, for the feel good, fun and investment factor, there’s a nice looking silver one about to go on collecting cars.

With over 100 cars getting released around the same time this will be the biggest influx of cars to the market, until the demonstrators get released.
If someone is serious now is probably as good a time as any for availability, especially for as good as new cars

Asking price cars at £35,995 sitting unsold.
It’s an evolving market , and you are right 👍 I think the most popular colours will move reasonably quickly , when there are several of the same colour it is a case of who blinks first , buyer or seller 🤔

I was thankful for this knowledge. I'm sure others were too. I've had several changes of circumstances since I ordered the '86 and so it's very useful to know what options are available to me 🙂

Ive just shared my experience of selling and know the other 3 that actually sold were sub 35k.

Nobody has sold one privately for 36k.
Your honesty was and is much appreciated! People are chancing it a bit by putting a high asking price. If someone bites then great, else they have to lower.

What's an SM-G781B? If it's a private jet I'm quitting this forum!
Love it. If I had an option of gifting you a Scaled model diecast jet for this post, I would've [emoji1787][emoji1787]

It's not as old as an S7 but is the Samsung model code . Something similar to GR86 having a model code of ZN8/ZD8
Google is your friend to find out. I've done that for you. [emoji2960]

Probably not for here but someone who knows someone at the dealer seem confident there's more allocation coming. You know, the same dealers who knew nothing until the cars turned up... It's a possibility but would depend on factory capacity, if Toyota are allowed to and if they did would be more than ours. I can't see it tbh. Unless they got ahead perhaps. Who has the latest ETA?

Hmm I also know someone who might have been speaking to someone in a dealership who said that UK are getting 1200 more… I just took it for BS, and maybe even said to start spreading a rumour, to pour some water on the flipping market??

If they do I'm sure they'll do a Premium model, charge more for it, include the red interior, duckbill...

I’ve just had a call and been told to expect an ETA of August next year for my 10:28 order that I recently changed from white to Magnetite Grey.

Was told I’d be at the back of the queue but either that’s not the case or if it is they are trying to fulfill all the original orders by then? Which would allow time for new orders? Would need to hear from someone with a late order with a recent update from Toyota UK.

It took them nearly 8 months to deliver the first 100 odd customer cars in the UK (and that's a rather high estimate). The remaining ~300 orders are no doubt gonna take at least another 6 months to trickle down to their owners.

Toyota have until July '24 to register all UK-allocated cars. Unless Subaru is going to dramatically increase their production capacity, I don't see them delivering 3x the number in the remaining year of production.

That's not to say another production run is impossible, I just don't see the numbers being substantial overall if it happns. It would be good for everyone to have more GR86s on the road as well.

We also need to appreciate the demand for these cars elsewhere in the world. If it’s more cost efficient for Toyota/Subaru to continue producing RHD cars for other markets then they’re probably going to do that.

I hope they do have spare capacity in the factory and build more for the UK market so more drivers get a chance to buy one, but we are only a tiny portion of their sales and demand is still very high in other regions for these cars so everyone will be fighting for allocations.

As said before though, if the UK market is only viable for another 1.5 years then why not capitalise while you can? I’d love to see more come here, I think I’d order one as a second car but I’d also love to see the flippers left with egg on their faces.
