GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Should have a slot in the ballot must test a Mk1 how much road noise is there at 70 mph?

That’s going to depend on what you are used to. It’s very quiet compared to my Elise S1, but it’s no Mercedes S Class. Perfectly acceptable for several hundred miles of motorway if you ask me.
I don't really understand why people complain about road noise in this car. Everybody knows it was specifically built to be lightweight. So yes, it is pretty loud, but if that's what you care about, you're not looking at the right car.

It's absolutely acceptable, considering the nature of the car.

Mine is mechanically standard as far as noise in concerned (no exhaust or intake) and I've spent quite a few days in the thing doing 150+ miles on motorways etc. and always hopped out feeling fresh and not at all fatigued.

I do have the silly fake engine noise turned off though, I imagine that would add to the low-level stress on your body and would probably make longer journeys less pleasant.

I don't think it's still available in the gen 2. But I didn't realise that you could switch it off. A load of reviews mentioned the fake sound to be bad, but if you can turn it off, I don't see the issue...

You need to program it out via Techstream or some other OBD Based solution like Carista.
So it is as simple as asking your dealer to turn it off or a relatively easy DIY job.
You just cannot turn it off via a Menu, which is perhaps why many people seem to think that it is on for good and there is no easy way of turning it off.

IF you're daily driving the car, I agree: the car has quite a bit of road noise.
In detail - and depending on the type of tarmac - the oem PS4S tyres are NOT the most silent (I guess that was low in the req.s list - that's fine)... but what gets into my nerves is how you hear every single pebble of sand blasting to the underside of the car. Feels like a vacuum-cleaner getting every sand grain in a 500 m radius!! - Not kidding ;) I've driven plenty of cars and never felt the same level of "sand pelting" apart maybe from some ancient Nissan S13's.
For me it's not a show-stopper, I try interpret it like a "rally-car quirk" more than a bad-thing - but honestly it could be better in that regard.
In fact, additional underside trays are something I'm in market for.. that together with low-grip (/less gluey) tyres ;-)
Shutting the windows improve that a bit (unfortunately also reduces the 'good-noises' too...) and having extra lining of sound damping glued to the boot improves to some extent... but it may not worth the labour and the extra-weight.

Not to mention once you recline the rear seats.
The first time I did that, to carry the wheels for winter tyres, I had to keep on checking whether the boot was properly locked, since the noise coming from the rear of the car was so loud that it sounded like the boot was wide open 😅
That's the dark side of driving a rally car in disguise, I guess...

Am I the only one annoyed that most countries (mine included) aren't getting red-stitching + seatbelts option? I don't have confirmation if it's really impossible to order as such, but there are no mentions anywhere.

I was wrong, dealer was able to order red (EA30) interior. It just wasn't listed anywhere in the price or spec book. It was free.

0.3s difference. As newer one is faster on straights, it looses time in corners?

Quite possibly. He claimed he didn’t have enough seat time to get used to the newer one. However, the auto is allegedly fastest, so I still expected a much better outcome.

Was that half spin included in the timing? DK says new one is improved and faster. Even from vid I can tell the engine revs out better and clearly faster. But he gets in a much better groove with the manual, whose handbrake wasn't properly bedded.

Nothing has changed from previous ideas about the differences for me. New one better, old one still good, both will remain attractive with an appropriate price difference.

to my understanding he did more than just one lap, so would be funny if the best time had that bad handbrake corner.
new one also understeers, maybe less as stock form. if you alter the geo maybe the difference is not really huge in the end.

given he is quite experienced driver find it diffcult not being able to adjust to the car that is so close. but fun to see more comparisons coming!

Could you elaborate on your geo changes and maybe share your setup sheet?
