GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Is at least interesting to me, anyway, that the title of the pages seems similar for some, different for others.

UK one seems to be the same one that the MKI had, a whole bunch appear to be derivations of 'The legend continues' ... I mean, I'm no Italian but La leggenda continua is pretty clear.

The interesting one is the German one... which seems to have something to do with racing and the streets? Strassen (with the b thingy) means streets as far as I'm aware, though I only know that from the 911 GT1 Strassenversion

Sad times. Hyundai axed i20n/i30n for Europe. Leaves the type r and gr yaris. I think the next gr yaris will be priced like the type r. £42,000 manual, £44,500 auto. I hope I’m so wrong
Very very sad times indeed...
But at the same time, I see that almost every thing in the world of cars is pointing to a great disappointment about the only-BEV future, even in Europe, so there is still some spark of hope that E-fuel and similar carbon-zero fuels could give back the way to our loved sports cars.
About the prices, the only hint we had so far is the pre-order page on toyota.fr, and I guess the prices all over Europe won't differ this much.
In the UK I think it will just be (circa) a matter of converting the Eur price to Pounds, so it might be around £40k for a manual (forged wheels included) and £43k for a full optional automatic. Just guessing...

I just saw this. The i20N was a close second place for me after the GR Yaris. Sad that they are axing this in Europe. I can’t believe there is such a small market for ICE hot hatches anymore, or that emissions dictates the number that can be sold. I passed my test in the 90’s and that’s all we all wanted. Although I understand the latest generation are not that interested in driving.

Think I need to save the GR Yaris for my son when he learns to drive in 11 years time.

I wonder if there will be some kind of penalty for driving these kind of cars on holiday in, or through France
Yes, that will be the punishment.

Amen. But now after ouninpohja mk1 definitely needs beefier suspension

BOS suspension is maybe part of the answer / solution to that. As you probably know, they are Rally1 & Rally2 suspension supplier. They provide a road & track kit as well, same price range as Ohlins. They just increased the price +400 € a few days ago.

Wouldn't be that surprised at all ! Actually, penalty kind of exists already if you look at the rising price of 98 RON gasoline...
But, they decently can't do that until having sorted out the issue of the thousands of trucks transiting through France every single day where at least two "greener" solutions exist : 1. Load the trucks on specific Trans-France" trains, 2. Part of the merchandise to be distributed in France itself could transit via the rivers & canals across France. Hence much less diesel particules & CO2 in the atmosphere.
But this is totally out of subject here, sooooorry.

thanks for the link but maybe leaning towards bigem or protlum. bigem uses 20% larger piston at least.

I forgot about the extra VED at £40k. It now feels to me that keeping the MK1 is the best choice.
The Mk1 was £30k to £35k which seemed a lot for a small hot hatch at the time. Now, I think it was a bargain.
I get my new Yaris Cross in a week as my daily and was surprised that the top models cost more than my GRY cost. Again, what a bargain my GRY was.
As someone said earlier - all that extra money for what might be very small improvements with the MK2.
Then consider the £500 a year road tax, extra insurance etc and how long will it be that many new buyers will be thinking "I should have kept my MK1".
To some people the money doesn't matter but not everyone who bought the MK1 is in that position. I paid outright for mine but am still a tight bugger so think very carefully about parting with money that took years to build.
I think the problem with a £40k+ MK2 is that a lot of people who bought the MK1 are so called "ordinary" people who found a way of buying it at say £35k to treat themselves and not miss out on the last of its kind and now another last of its kind is now available with probably another MK3 last of its kind in 2027 at a much higher price and are now reluctant to let it go and find another £15k+.
I think as time passes and people sleep on it most will see the MK2 as something that would be nice but in reality its a hell of a lot of money for a small improvement. Me, I actually like my dash and after hip replacement I quite like the higher seat so those small improvements would be even smaller. I decided to upgrade the daily and wait to see what MK3 looks. Sometimes your head needs to win over the heart and I suspect many more will follow me.
If you don't already have a GRY then go get the MK2 as you will absolutely love it.

just watched another intro video of Mk2 and thought that intake tract to airbox is narrower (one slit instead of two). Maybe it doesn't make much difference but still.
Also the additional coolers are not that well protected, might be good idea to add extra mesh espec in front of passanger side radiator. but, time will tell.

We talked about mechanical improvements to the new model, but lets talk about usability.

Do you think infotainment will be upgraded?
Will we get wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay?
Do you think Lane Assist feature will get improved on? On my new Civic (non TypeR) it's sublime and pleasure using when commuting.

I just watched a video from an Italian online magazine, about the presentation of the Ogier and Rovanpera Editions in Finland, and they said that there are rumors of a price around 70k euros for the Mk2 Special Editions.
I've already dismissed the idea of taking one from the start, but at this price level it would really make no sense at all buying it (my opinion), just to keep it parked and waiting to sell it at a profit, and being different from an ordinary manual Mk2 just for just the 4WD maps, and for some cosmetic tweaks.
At this price you could take two good used Mk1s...

that was my bet also. +70k for special editions make +60k for generic ones sound "bargain". normal tricks. Happy with my poor mans mk1 ..
I'm not selling as its the most fun car I've had for a while. Just visit Ouninpohja and you wont regret. ;)

Actually I'm still hoping that for the Italian market the price for Mk2 will be aligned with the French one (not on the tax side, of course, here in Italy taxation on cars like GRY is not abnormal, at least by now), with a DAT full optional one around 52k euros, otherwise I'm pretty sure I'd have to give up placing my order for a Mk2...
I'm a bit worried by the fact that you are always very well informed with what's going on in TGR... đŸ˜°
