GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

at least in their Kinto program customer was able to opt for engine power, steering assistance and powertrain balance. not sure though what options this include.

I'm intrigued about this model still. The edition that's currently available in Germany is already known as the High Performance, and the wording, at least via Google Translate kinda makes it sound like it could be talking about Performance Pack 2.0 (with the customisation), but that's not something that's yet been referred to as High Performance anywhere as far as I can remember? The translated document mentions the 'standard high performance pack includes the torsen diffs'... so it does sound like it's Kinto.

I found another document that had an email address on it, so I pinged the bloke and asked him a few questions. Will let you know what I find out.

I've been doing some digging related to the Kinto update, it sounded like there was nothing to stop it being done on a euro car, it's just when I asked MFF (who are based in one of the places who do the Kinto updates) about it, they asked GR Garage and they said that they needed to plug into the car directly... which was what I expected.

However, if this update is potentially available on Europe on German GR's I think a road trip to Germany might be on the cards ;p

Be interesting if we get to see some more images, if it's not just the old German High Performance pack, if it was a RZ with an GPF that could make a lot of interesting retrofit options available.

The Vin on my car is late on in 24XXX and I picked it up 2 weeks ago. I honestly think these 300 cars for Germany are just the last production cars. Given how long it takes to make and deliver them, summer 2024 deliveries makes sense.

First confirmed >25,000 car? Congratulations!

The German promotional text talks about an "individual setup" for the new owners of that limited edition. No further explanation as of now. The closest guess would be a suspension for individual tune. Perhaps there might be some features from the GRMN version in Japan, who knows.

Compared to list price in Germany for a High Performance Pack version (includes the differentials and the stiffer springs, mostly), there is a difference of around 4.500 Euros which the limited edition is more expensive.

I suspect they’ve been struggling to sell cars in Germany and have some dead Stocks that they’re trying to get rid of an easy way to do that is to offer a factory upgrade which is already offered in Japan.
I don't think they are struggling to sell cars here, since the order books werde closed for over two years now. There are people still waiting for their car after more than 30 months. Also used GRY prizes are still not going down even when the hole used car market is deflating. My guess is those 300 cars are maybe canceled orders or some "dead stock" from other countries.

Taking an Occam’s Razor approach to this information, maybe Toyota is simply planning to keep churning out the Yaris at the recent cadence for the foreseeable, and this is just the DE allocation for the coming 12-24 months?

If that were the case then it’s likely other interested markets *cough* the UK *cough* are going to be getting another allocation too…

That could also be possible, but the press information explicitly says all cars of the limited edition will be built in the first quarter of 2024. But wouldn't be the first time Toyota Deutschland is misinformed itself 😅

Proper A€€f’’k to order special model and then better mk2 would be available

Mk2, yes, quite possibly.

As for "better", that remains to be seen.

And even if it is better, crucially, would it be better value for money (VfM) too or an offer of as nonsensical VfM to most as the GRMN edition?

I think the chances of getting an offer of VfM as last time are simalar to getting a 0% finance offer like the one many of us got in the UK, while inflation ended up at circa 10%.

I've got a bit of a dilemma, I put in an order for a Rallye 13 months ago in Aus. The dealer called me and said there was a cancellation and I can take an allocation which will be arriving in January. In light of the news that there potentially could be an mk2 (which I'd obviously prefer) I don't know what to do... I hope the official news comes out prior to then 🙏

Won't they want to know pretty soonish if you want the allocation, or will move it on?

I can't imagine you being upset with the Rallye.

Personally I wouldn't turn down one for a car that might just be rumour

I told the sales consultant of the potential new model, if it comes I'd like to switch my order over and that I was happy to wait for my original allocation. I believe the allocation that I was offered is a cancellation but he said we can still talk about it in January when it comes.

You are absolutely right, I want and love the car but will be so pissed if they bring out a mk2 literally just after taking ownership of a S1.

GR Yaris mk 2, as far as I know, is confirmed, from very good sources.

In fact, it has been tested somewhere in Europe already. It is a 2024 model and allocations will be ‘tricky’ during that year:

-Improved engine. 280 ish hp in Europe. What’s in it? Not sure, my take is gr corolla adapted to meet EU emissions.
-Automatic gearbox as an option (maybe just in convenience packs?).
-Lower seats.
-Lower interior screen.
-Higher rearview mirror.
-Digital dashboard.
-Minor external changes.
-Possibly new rims.
-some GRMN parts available through dealers.
-More expensive than the actual one.
-New colour(s)?

If you have ordered a 2023 GR Yaris, I would cancel the order if I were you and try get the mk2. If you have one already, it’s man maths time, but in my opinion based on the things I shared, I’m not convinced the upgrade is worth it. But I’m sure Toyota keeps stuff for themselves until they unveil the vehicle.

Let’s see. I’m not dashing off to Ladbrokes, given all the previous rumours.

Oh, and if they go for that nomenclature then this model would be an ‘Evo’, not an ‘Evo 2’ ;)

Let’s call it mk2, to avoid any confusion.

What are your sources? Not asking who 🙂
