GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

They decided against selling the new Z in Europe for that reason though too right? I got the impression it's really hard to do right now
That was purely economics. The 350/370Z was never a huge seller here.

Oh really I heard it was totally to do with safety stuff. Interesting! I actually quite like the look of that new Z

Just the new Toyota CEO Koji Sato doing his presentation for the shareholders on how they will move to EV after his predecessor was removed due to not wanting to go in that direction.

yep, did not see many purely internal combustion cars there. wonder if there is many presented..

It’s quite sad news really. The fact that Toyota, the world’s largest car manafacturer, were not solely exploring the BEV route and therefore likely to invest heavily in alternative fuels and hydrogen combustion etc was the only hope for engines to survive this green cull.

To be honest I understood and interpreted these news differently.
As far as I'm aware Toyota has in no way announced that they're slowing down their hydrogen efforts.
The man in charge now is the Ex-Boss of the Gazoo Racing division.
He is enthusiastic about all of the Gazoo Racing stuff from what I've understood and Akio Toyoda is far from gone, given that he has now become the Chairman.
It's just that they're trying harder now to show that they're also a force to be reckoned with in the BEV space.

Toyota is all about the solid state batteries at the moment. They think they have cracked it and if so it definitely is bye bye ICE.

maybe their full EV wasn't such success so they need to improve little bit in that area, hopefully its not all black and white but their IC sport models will live long and prosper

Hydrogen is a dead-end for passenger vehicles, Toyota themselves know that. In nine years and over two generations they have sold about 25,000 Mirai. Tesla now sell that many Model 3 each and every month. It’s sad, but the physics for HFCV just don’t stack up, even less so for HICE.

The bZ4x or whatever it’s called is a modest first stab, but they will get better, quickly. The only problem for Toyota (and VW et al) is the Chinese are already eating their lunch here.

Wonder if the Aisin 8spd in new 135 is the same that is planned/tested for GR?
doesn't give much appraisal but don't think there is many variants of different boxes to choose from.
Of course Toyota could have fine tuned the software better.

Toyota say this every 2 years, then nothing happens. To quote that guy who people seem to love to hate... "prototyping is easy, production is hard."

Their new CEO is all about diversification of zero and low carbon strategies. BEV, Hybrid, Synthfuel and Hydrogen.

Personally I think they'll spread themselves too thinly and not deliver on some of that.

In China certainly. ROW Tesla are eating their lunch.

Diess (before he was exited) even called out Tesla as the benchmark, producing an EV in 10hours vs the 30 hours it takes at VW.

We'll definitely start to see more Chinese EVs in UK/EU soon, but the tariffs on Chinese cars in the US make them uncompetitive, so Chinese auto are not even trying to enter that market.

I wonder how much wind has been taken out of the sails of the GR division under Toyotas new stewardship, its safe to say we probably wouldn't be chatting here if it wasn't because of Akido. The new guy is very EV focused.

The new CEO was the head of Lexus and led the GR Racing org.

Toyota has picked Koji Sato, the head of Lexus and the Gazoo Racing unit, to be the automaker’s next president and CEO, as Akio Toyoda, grandson of the company’s founder, steps up to be the company’s new chairman.

Have to hope he carries the enthusiasm for GR into his new role.

Oh I didn't realise that, I thought it was Akido, his love of being a petrolhead meant he couldn't take Toyota where it needed to go.

Just like the number plate.
