But compared to my iX3 (1551€) and the Porsche (1408€), I think it's not that expensive. Especially compared to the BMW, as it has the same HP, weighs half, has less safety systems and "only" costs 37% less.

If I'd have been so lucky to get a GRMN like this guy did, I'd have no doubt myself as well.
Keep the GRMN all life to drive something really unique and special, and sell it just when you are too old to drive it, to buy a new mansion somewhere: prices for this used car are insane, they are usually sold by auction like some special ed Ferrari or Porsche

For sure it's not going as well as in all other countries.
Toyota France started first in February with pre-orders in Europe, with an allocation of 300 cars, and pre-orders are still open now, while in the other countries whole allocations went sold out in a matter of hours.
Maybe hopeful buyers from France are waiting to find some used Mk2s around Europe, taking advantage of EU free movement of goods, who knows?
But I don't know whether this abnormal tax is applied to imported used cars as well.
I see that now Toyota France has opened a draw for two Ogier Ed and one Rovanpera Ed, for 69k euros each.
Will they sell them, at least?

It's been confirmed earlier in this thread. While I don't necessarily disagree with incentives to steer away from gas guzzling cars, I do strongly disagree on the the extremely steep feedback loop around the GRY CO2 numbers, to then just flatline and hit the ceiling just a bit later. It really doesn't make any sense in real world differences when in practice similar offenders just 10-20g apart in theoretical emissions are taxed so immensily differently, while say a Chiron is dirt cheap relatively in comparison...

Yes, I think higher taxes for ICE's are normal. But in France they rise so quickly to the flat rate that hardly anything fun is less than the maximum. Also the amount is just ridiculous (I think the max in Belgium is about 10k tax, not 50k).
And in the end, it doesn't make a difference, their GR Yaris will just be sold as a tracktoy or competition car, and than you don't have to pay the tax.

maybe OT but how does that tax go for used cars? do you still have to pay that extra environmental tax even importing 1yr old car? if no its a total ripoff for new ICEs
Yes, That tax is just the tax for getting a license plate for the car. There are probably some rules for older cars (otherwise every 10yr old car will be 50k tax...), but for recent cars the amount will still be very high.

Yes, the tax is also on used vehicles. 5% is deducted per year. This means that in 20 years there would be no more tax.

ok for 1-3yr old vehicles its still quite steep ask. that's quite a decision from Government to ban all ICE's with larger engine.
Visiting Nice or Monaco with Ogier edition will then get lots of applauds.

They should be aiming at the typical V8's etc, but they put the limit way to low.
There are more countries with a similar tax though. In Netherlands they also have 27k tax.

Removal of the cap on penalty tax from 2024
The previous cap on penalty tax of 50 percent of the purchase price will no longer apply from 2024. Imported used cars will also be subject to a higher penalty tax, which applied in previous years. However, there is a discount of five percent for each year in which the vehicle was already registered. Vehicles that are 20 years old or older are exempt from the penalty tax.
