I don't think the PUZU will make is good sounding, more make it sound the best it can. The signal from the HU is not clean enough (from EQ) and the distance between the tweeters and door speakers make time delay setting difficult.

At the end of the day, the Focals need the PUZU for the grunt and to tailor to your taste and the cars acoustics.

If I were to do this again in the future, I would go PUZU first then upgrade the speakers later.

I had PUZU only on my other 2 cars (Seat Tarraco and Mini F56) and it made a night and day difference. Of course, factory speakers cant handle the louder volume but I no longer 'spank' the system..., too old for that! EQ'ing to my audio taste is more my concern.

Just upgraded mine today with this kit, added some sound deadening inside the doors too - easy enough - couldn't believe how light the original speakers were, as if there wasn't a magnet!

Took the opportunity, whilst the cards were off to fix the window 'cracking' problem, with the fibre washer, so that is done now too

Just have to listen to it now!

(Have some left over sound deadening - boot floor ?)

Rear quarters if you haven't done so already. Single biggest difference is in that massive void.

I was also well impressed with the stock speakers considering they are so insanely light, they do well.

Gday Ive done speakers in both cars and they are the same speakers. With the Yaris i did the focals in the door and the mids i did Audison in the dash. I then did a head unit change to a bigger screen of Aliexpress for $300 bucks and that gave me good eq to work with.

I just swapped out my 2 way IS TOY for the 3 way Focal 165AS3 as the 2 way I need for the rear doors of my Alphard.

You'll need a few more parts in comparison to the ISTOY but for £60 more in total, I think its an option worth considering. However, I do recommend that you have a PUZU or DSP fitted to tune the 3 way.

Door speakers is straight forward replacement with an adaptor ring.

Mid range into dash location is bolt in with adaptor ring. Relocated the Emergency call speaker into the area next to the glovebox.

Tweeter I mounted on the A pillar angled facing the opposing head rest as much as could with the supplied mount. So drivers side tweeter is angled to the passenger head rest and vice versa. Later on I may play with tweeter direction to see if any improvement can be had. If you want a clean install, you can install the tweeter back into the original location in the grill but I wanted direct axis from the tweeter rather than reflected off the windshield.

The result is more sound stage on the dash and a warmer sound. Bass goes lower but I think that is due to the amount of foam I put around the speaker to seal the speaker face to the door panel.

In summary, for me with a PUZU and then adjusted, the SQ has improved noticeably over the plug and play 2 way.
