GR86 Exhausts

For me, the Remark was a cheap way of getting more noise and to actually hear what the car was doing and I still like it. I'd like a full system eventually but with GPF's I can't see it being any time soon. Also noticed inside the Remark tips are tarnishing more than I expected, particularly inside them,. A quick pass of Autosol didn't get rid of which almost looks like rust so I'll have to get a polishing pad to stick on a drill.
 
HKS Spec L Update a few months in. I like it.

It's not too loud, it is loudest a 3k, I cold started yesterday to move it away from a bed as the other half was gardening and she grinned and said how fantastic it sounds. I've even warmed to the "halfords" burnt blue tips.

Needs an intake now to balance it out and full in the higher revs.

Would be great to hear some of the various options in the flesh at some stage as I can see a replacement of the stock system happening on mine in the future.

I have the resonated Milltek. You will need to really like noise and boom constantly in the car to go for the non-resonated IMO.

Hmm, I definitely don't want boom when cruising - I just thought the resonated Milltek sounded barely louder than stock.... Good to hear the Cobra Non-Resonated doesn't suffer from boom. Think I'll be talking to the chaps at Fennsport for some advice :)
 
Can confirm that the Cobra non-res is boom-free. Tbh I thought it’d be a bit louder inside but after having someone drive it past me a few times whilst stood at the side of the road I think it’s about perfect from outside. Really not obnoxious at all.
 
Apologies if this has already been answered (I did briefly look). If I get a cobra or milltek resonated exhaust and think it's too quiet. Is it just a simple change in centre pipe to the non resonated pipe? Presumably not that expensive? Just don't know which to go with, so having the option to change is appealing. Cheers

When I put this question to Cobra Sports, their reply was “yes, we can”. I can’t answer for the other. A couple of us here have the Cobra non-rez and IMO, for normal day to day driving I’d say it was subtle and understated. Only when it’s opened up do you get a more aggressive sound.

I have the Cobra Res and last time I was quoted for the non-res pipe (only) was 244£+shipping.
Since I only use the car on the weekends I regret not going for the non-res (it was cheaper actually). But I still enjoy the resonator as much.
 
An Update on the HKS Legamax Premium after a couple of months and 2500 miles

Im not fan of the hosepipe build it yourself fittings with other options I looked at to make it fit so the quality and fit straight from the box was a big selling point for me, especially as a daily as those hozelock clips dont last to long in daily use.

Cold Start is noisy when its cold but now its warmer its not offensive at all if you let the car run its start cycle...I did try a start and go a couple of days in when it was 3 celsius and set off a Range Rover alarm!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

In daily use I still have the sound generator on and this perfectly balances the front and rear sound in the car...windows open you can hear it with what a low boxer tone but nothing obnoxious.

Give it a boot full of revs on a downshift you get a nice wet crisp bag burst and not a feck you Im here!!

Completely appreciate not for all but design and engineering was key to me along with once the will had blown about as I knew it would a nice low tone that you can hear and enjoy yourself and not piss of people that have no interest in your interest!! :ROFLMAO:

I’m another Cobra non res owner. Sonic was kind enough to let me hear his at the end of last year and based on this decided to go non res. If I wanted it quieter then easy to add the res in afterwards. Kept the initial price down. Only managed a couple of drives out so still to bed in but I got the thumbs up from the wife so both happy with the non res.
Big thing for us was no drone. The GR86 ain’t going to be a quiet car as plenty of other noise going on.
What I will say it depends what you point of reference is in past cars, and so comes personal preference and how much you want to spend on a system, is it just about the sound or is it on a path of other mods for performance gains? For us it was just the sound as happy with the performance for the open road/touring, therefore the price point needed to be sensible. Cobra support is very good (whole company based in Sheffield) as I have found (fitted myself) and lifetime warranty for the original owner not to be sniffed at.
 
I've had an exhaust from Hayward & Scott fitted about a week ago. It's quietened down a touch now there has been some miles put on it.
The cold start is not as bad as I was expecting. It has a nice rumble low down the rev range . As the revs build the volume doesn't increase a huge amount. It's not a screamer. Cruising along at Motorway or dual carriageway way speeds it's bearly noticeable in the background.

That looks like their Helmholtz system, I also have this one. It's a little quiet at times for me though. Did you go for the larger Central resonator or smaller one?

It's not the Helmholtz, I thought that was going to be to quite ( I had to judge from videos), it's with the smaller centre section.
 
Anyone sourced the “AWE Touring with black tips” from Torqen.co.uk

If so, would you recommend Torqen and what did you pay?
