GR86 Exhausts

Another update on the C-TEC Performance front pipe back system for the GR86.

We've recently completed three installs. Each owner was able to get a close up inspection of their system prior to the install. It's also a great opportunity for us to answer any final questions, plus it gives us the chance to explain in detail why we've gone with the design we have, point out specifics which will be unique to our system, discuss the benefits of V band etc.

The customer then gets to see the full install process. The ease of install, the accuracy of the fitment to the OEM front pipe flange, accuracy re alignment to the OEM exhaust hanger points and the perfect alignment between the two sections of our systems at the V band connection. A final sign off from each customer on the tail pipe alignment, then it's engine start up time.

We do check whether ASC is still active, and if so we strongly recommend this is disabled. We can do this at the point of install, it's very straightforward, and fully reversible.

We've requested each owner has a period of time with their new system. We welcome all feedback, and once all parties are entirely satisfied, that's when we will officially roll out on this forum.

This is my exhaust from @ctecperformance. Firstly I have to say that the knowledge and passion for the product was a massive plus point for me, couldn't fault the experience at all. As for the exhaust itself, really high quality item, in my opinion. Fits perfectly, simple installation, and sounds fabulous. I've gone for the single wall tip option at 4.5inch others were available.

Cold start video below and some images of the system on the car. Its on my driveway in this video boxed in on all sides by a wall and fence.
Driving, the exhaust has a lovely tone which is changing in intensity throughout the rev range. I think so far my favourite is 3.5k - 5k. really nice induction noise and exhaust tone as the rpm increases. In 6th at 50 and 70mph system is really daily usable, in town at lower speeds and low rpm system is calm and not in anyway offensive to the locals. Down changes with some extra throttle input you're treated to various cracks and pops which is a very welcome change over standard.

edit: just to say that the video is taken from my phone Pixel 7.

To be fair and honest as an ex Plumber that has worked with pipes and welds.....why does the insert piece that joins the 90 angle into the box exist...theres a pipe fill and welds to cover that shouldn't be there to my eye!!
The manufacturer signage appears to have missed a full course of the welding to attach it.
And to be totally honest why dont the tips fill the cut out...surely thats the point to work back from for the sounds ?

This isn't an insert, this is a plate brace to strengthen this area. This system is fabricated using a thin wall 1.2mm SS rather than the typical 1.5mm so it's a precautionary measure. We want our system to last.

I agree, from a purely cosmetic perspective, it would look prettier without the plate brace. However, as a manufacturer, we've taken the decision that function and durability wins over cosmetics here. It's worth noting, this small brace isn't visible with the system fitted, car on the tarmac.

The brand plate has a full perimeter TIG weld. It may be the angle/lighting on the photo as you're looking at it.

We offer both 4.5" tail pipe and 5" tail pipe options. With a 0.5" diameter tail pipe difference, there is no audible difference. We offer this to give the customer a choice, and thus far 75% have opted to go for the 4.5".

Can confirm the plaque isn't going anywhere ;) fab work and fitment is superb.

As for the tips filling the cut out, it will be the angle of the photo, they fill it out just fine and are just as long if not longer than some other exhausts for this platform.

Think this looks great- if anything I’d prefer the tips even smaller. I think large diameter exhausts look a bit silly, especially on a not too large cc car 🤷‍♂️
I’d love to hear a few more videos of this one as it looks / sounds promising 🧐🧐

Thanks 👍 All of the first production batch of 3x systems now belong to members on this forum. They have been installed, but only 1 - 2 weeks ago.

An owner has very kindly posted a few videos earlier in this thread. I'm sure more will be posted over this next week or so.

I've been asked to take a few dB readings, so I'll be doing that one the next customer install.

In the meantime, if there are any specific photos or videos you would like to see, please ask and ill do my best.

Sounds okay on the video, but would like to hear one of these in person. Might be tempted to switch, I like my HKS but it's still a little on the quiet side.

Those who've had them fitted...any comment on drone?

@ctecperformance can we have a price (with delivery)? 😁
Thanks for your interest Mick, I'll be in a position to roll this out with prices next week, hope thats ok.

I'm hoping to be able to confirm an early bird offer for the first 5x orders via GR-Zoo. It won't be a huge saving, but hopefully it will help get things rolling 👍

ZN8, moderator on here came to see us last Saturday for his system install. He's from Kent too. I'm sure he won't mind you dropping him a DM on here for his feedback.

Having heard the HKS, I know exactly what you mean. It's not much of a step up exhaust note and volume wise versus OEM with ASC disabled. This is where put system really delivers. ASC disabled and you've got a really nice sports exhaust note, a nice amount of volume when you want it, and no drone. I've had this confirmed by each owner. We've installed every system so far, and they've all involved a Motorway journey home.

On the subject of ASC, I highly recommend that this is disabled with our system installed. This is something we can do for you at the point of install should you require our fitting service.

It's a bit of an illusion, single wall tips or those painted black look bigger. Think a small alloy wheel with a fat tyre and a large alloy with a rubber band tyre, both will have the same OD but the larger alloy will always look bigger.

For reference this is the stock tip against the 4.5" twin wall slash cut. Very similar, I wouldn't recommend going smaller as they will get lost in the bumper cut outs (which are pretty big!)

Personally I am also not a fan of massive exhaust tips, those fitted on my car are temporary. Charlie from CSK who is a partner with Nigel at CTEC has fabbed me up some lovely chrome twin wall 4.5" tips. I will post some photos when they are fitted.

I will promise to get some video content up, it's been a very busy week for me! @Conscript sounds like we need to meet up! (B-road The Stag maybe?) we can do a comparison between your HKS and the CTEC system (y)

That would be ideal. I know about that place...it's not far off one of my favourite Sunday morning driving routes, and I keep thinking it would good to pop in...but as I'm usually out well early, I'm home long before it opens for breakfast :D

I can bring a Millktek too 😁
