GR86 Exhausts

Recently switched from the Remark axle back straight pipes to the HKS Legamax Premium. It’s possibly a little too quiet but I’ll definitely not have any bother with track day noise and it should get louder as it beds in. Extremely good fit and finish. Great bassy tone at lower RPM.

I have a cobra resonated exhaust, I only have the standard system to compare it to but it was money well spent. The car actually has a fairly characterful soundtrack now, befitting a vehicle of this nature. Generally quiet unless under load, improves the driving experience no end as prior to the fitment the aural senses were unstimulated.

People that got the ctecperformance exhaust, still happy with it and what it cost you?
I echo what everybody else has said, still very pleased with mine. Perfect balance for a daily driven car. It's a quality hand fabricated product so it will last forever, it's just a shame it's tucked under the car. I would highly recommend it.

Spent the Sunday fitting the Borla S-Type Catback (imported through Nemesis UK, who were great to deal with).

First impressions are good, vocal when it needs to be but quiet enough in the cruise. Cold start is... spicier than I expected, will see how it beds in.

Unfortunately l, it seems to be the case that any exhaust that you can hear over the tyre roar has a rather obnoxious cold start, but at least we're saving the planet by flaming through the cat in the morning.

I’m thinking of moving on from the remark axle back as well. Too many 50mph sections near me and the drone is horrendous.
Me too as it goes. If I'm alone and seats are up it's fine but seats down with the dog and I always seemed to be in the rpms where it drones. I want a complete system though as the cat is also too bulbous for some under bracing I want to fit so I'll wait until first MOT is done and the car is paid for. Issue is no one really does a full system for UK cars yet and there's the GPF to worry about too.

Very happy thanks, had mine installed in Sept time and it has transformed the driving experience.
On cold start it is very loud and bassy, but 5-10 seconds it calms down and when warm its a nice gentle note when idling.

On acceleration it gives a great noise from low revs and no boom or resonance on the motorway or at any revs. Its a classy system and even the Toyota service team commented on how nice it sounded and well made it is.
Worth every penny unless you want a McDonalds chavzort.

HKS Spec L update now it’s been on for 4,000 or so miles.

It has settled down a bit, it sounds bassier and smoother. It is loudest at 3k, but having to do some motorway miles in the UK yesterday and today (6 or so hours total combined) I’d genuinely say at its loudest at 3k, but most of the time it’s not as loud as the road noise, - yes you can hear it but it’s no more intrusive than the PS4 roar (motorways M40, M25 and M3).

Occasionally you get the blessed relief of road noise on a flat smoother bit of fresh tarmac, at that point I’d say its louder but (to me at least), not unpleasant.

The only time I found it a bit boomy was on a very long slow hill descent where I was coasting in neutral, bang on 3k (Remenham Hill descending into Henley for those local). It seems constant 3k on overrun is the Achillies heal, but luckily that’s a niche occurrence. - probably also impacted by the fact that I was going fairly slowly on fairly smooth road, so road noise was minimal.

It was quite quiet with the cruise set to 70, seemingly quieter than me manually maintaining 70. Once you are in the 80 or so zone you are clear of the 3K rev range it is fairly modest anyway.

I've had it for a year, very happy with it. Quality product, and service from Nigel is excellent. As most people have said, it's quite loud on cold start, but pretty much perfect after that. No drone, it's not obnoxious, but really adds character to the car.

From the descriptions it sounds exactly like my AWE touring, which i love. It would be great to have a side-by-side comparison with another member.

You won't get an AWE touring for that price and it looks good quality with V-bands etc.

Thanks, coincidentally our GR86 system was born out of an enquiry from a nearby GR86 owner who was seriously considering the AWE touring system. We felt the GR86 would suit a more civilised exhaust note versus the AWE, plus any volume manufacturer will struggle to match our individually fabricated hand made system.

We take the same approach with any of our performance parts. The first Q we ask ourselves is, can we improve over what else is available. If not, there is absolutely no point in us investing the necessary development costs and time.

Where are you based? We are Rotherham, South Yorkshire. You'd be very welcome to visit, have a cuppa and we can facilitate the comparison for you.

I wonder if this OEM Yuza US model exhaust will ever reach these shores...
