GR86 Exhausts

You're not alone. There's a collage of "I've just bought an AWE Exhaust" and subsequent "I'm selling my AWE Exhaust" posts floating around online.

Its a keeper for me I love it, however I can understand that it might be a bit too raw (roar! Sorry couldn't resist) for some.😀💥

I’ve seen the memes, watched all the reviews and decided as its a fun car rather than a commuter, I’m willing to gamble with my ears…

Will report back once it’s on but I’m in no rush as it’s too cold to be under cars

It'll sound really good. I sometimes wish my touring was a touch louder but when cruising it's nice to have it just burbling away in the background rather than shouting at me. As I said before though, the cold start, even on the touring is VERY loud.

It's an annoying thing about modern cars that they design an exhaust around how loud it will be when you turn it on.

Cold start is removable via ecutek which I will be doing at some point. Then i can be loud without my neighbours hating me

Respect. If we don't hear from you again, we'll assume your neighbours have lynched you :D

Any more info on this?
EcuTek has many features, cold start characteristics can be tweaked, as can the throttle mapping, perceived rev hang etc. Has flat foot shifting, auto blip, switchable maps. It's worth mentioning you will run the risk of voiding your drivetrain warranty if you was to remap the ECU.

Conscious not to derail the thread, more info here.

People that got the ctecperformance exhaust, still happy with it and what it cost you?
Still have mine, still very happy. Not sure you can go wrong with the exhaust from Nigel, product and service are awesome.

Couple of videos posted in this thread. Where are you based?

I am in Reading. Going to Japfest on the 13th, so if anyone is going and have the exhaust It'll be great to hear it.

Very happy! At first I thought it was very loud, but now have realized that it's just perfect.

-No drone at 70mph which is really important.
-Loud on cold Starts but both my neighbours and the missus have gotten used to it.
-I have a terrible commute across London daily, and you're able to "be annoying when you want" and be "stealth when you want" which is great. On small quaint streets you don't want to be the annoyance.
-When engine is warm, quick blips allow 50% pops and bangs, and 100% on furious downshifts.
-Refined Gentleman Boyracer ... more fitting my age, even though it's my mid life crisis car.

Nigel is great to deal with, well worth the price.

Hi, I had this system fitted about 6 months ago. 7,000 miles later I still think it’s a brilliant product. “Fruity”on start up but soon calms down. I was very picky about the tone when researching and I’m very pleased with the sound and it’s still enjoyable while not being annoying or anti social.

The service and install was excellent and, having just had the car on a ramp for a tyre change, it’s still in great condition.

Worth the money for sure.

I saw an advert on Facebook marketplace for STI exhaust carriers, apparently, they were a different compound designed to absorb frequencies that resonate the cabin. Does anyone have any experience of theses? Snake oil or a useful thing?

A quick Google suggests the part numbers are 44066AJ010.

Some reviews seem promising, all refering to the 3k buzz I have experienced on the HKS Spec L.

I've got a feeling I fitted these with my GT86 but I can't remember if they made a huge difference. Think they might have isolated a bit of drone and were perhaps a bit shorter IIRC? If you can get hold of some cheaply, they should at least be easy to install. In fact, I might see if I can get hold of some myself, my Spec L2 is pretty quiet but can introduce a little boom on overrun, I'd be interested if they can reduce that at all.

EDIT: Looks like the part number has been updated and is now 44066AJ011.

Hi All, I'm finally looking to fit aftermarket exhaust and am keen on the Cobra Non-Resonated. I intend to do some track days and wondered if anyone has any noise test results with this system fitted. TIA

Noise figures are on their website for static tests. I have the non-res and it’s more OEM+ than ‘in-yo-face’.

Edit: @Si Mo, here's a couple of minutes of cabin sound recorded today (through the BlackVue Dashcam) on my way back from Glasgow. There's a bit of acceleration, neutral throttle and deceleration within the same clip. Sound Generator is disabled; this is all exhaust. It might give you some idea of how it sounds whilst driving. 4K resolution available for video playback. Youtube Link.
