Civic Type R

Cutting your nose to spite your face.
Not really. There's lots of things I flat out refuse to pay for on principle and this is one of them. Have far better uses of the £2k. I'd rather take that tax I'm saving and stick it in savings and actually make something back on it and buy an FK8 instead. The 86 was an exception to my rule of even PCPing a car and at least it was well under £40k. The plan has always been to buy it outright.

Do you fear that the forum will be shut down?

The forum is for discussing cars and this specific thread about the Type R.

Plenty of other platforms to discuss topics not welcome here such as politics, sexism, racism etc.

No fears about the forum being shut down, as I manage it. ;)

Back to the Type R please folks.

I do like the Type R, but I have a hard job getting past the red seats and red interior - it's just a bit too 'in-yo-face' for my liking 😬 ...
Having had a fair few Civic and Integra Type Rs I can tell you: getting the power down on wet roads (9 months a year in the U.K.) ruins the fun. Big time. My last was a supercharged FD2 and before that a lightly tinkered FK2. I had no desire to buy the FK8 due to its looks. The FL5 would have been good to take kids out in. Not at £50k tho.

I had an Octavia with an open diff running almost 300bhp. It was a challenge in the wet but doable and added to it's charm. Driven an FK8 in the damp and was witchcraft in comparison. 4WD is easier but you can still make progress with FWD it just takes a very disciplined right foot.

The last two Civics have been the size of Ford Mondeos. I am sure they are well engineered and if you want a family sized hatch perfectly fine. I was after a more trad hatch sized car hence the GRY. My family sized car is a MB E Class which excels at long distance economical travel and is unexciting but very relaxing for 600 mile trips on one tank of fuel.

I did notice on Harry's Garage review how much the FL5 lights up the front wheels. I think he comments on it, there is only so much you can ask of the front wheels. I imagine that could be a little bit grating at times, it seems it can't put the power down unless it's in ideal conditions.
