To close this out this post, under direction from Ferdinand @ Canchecked, the latest SD card files were applied, a firmware update performed and the can speed upped to 500. Issue fixed and great support from Canchecked.de

Is the entire screen now used or is there still a vertical strip on the left? Or wait, did they end up fitting too small a display in the frame?

I always have to laugh at how crappy it looks that the whole frame isn't filled.
