GR Yaris πŸ‘Ž Negatives - what annoys, disappoints, puzzles and generally irks you about the GR Yaris?

Just a minor thing but every time I wind down the window, both sides, it comes back up wet on the outside. Anyone else find this?
I get this but most people have took off and binned the 3 little bungs in each of the doors but I left them in... maybe we could take them off and just put them aside in a lil baggy... Maybe it might help, maybe not lol! πŸ˜… (y)

Ach! I had high hopes that those bungs might be the cause after reading Kaxe's reply - they don't look to serve any purpose. I'm going to remove them anyway and maybe when the weather warms up a bit everything will breathe a bit better and the problem will go away.

More weight saving! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The 'auto window drop'... that only activates after youve pulled the door open and already dragged the top of the glass out from the seal. I worry about the longevity of the seal and the window guide edges. There doesnt seem to be a way to do this with mechanical sympathy, like say hold the handle for 2 secs before pulling door open. Even 20 year old TVRs manage to drop the glass before opening the door.

(Cue TVR quality jokes... actually dont bother... heard em all before and mine was actually pretty well made lol )

Oh and yes I know the 'drop' is really a 'lift', to trap the glass to mitigate road noise once the door is shut.

its a 'lift' not a drop, the door closes with the window in 'drop' position then once closed then 'lifts' and seals

its same as other marques employ to relive cabin air pressure as the door closes, once the pressure has equalized the window 'lifts' to seal

I think youve misunderstood my issue... Its the fact that the window is 'up' when you go to open the door, it then drops when you open the door, ie pull on the handle... but its too slow as youve already pulled the window out from the seal its been pushed up into before it drops.

I wondered about this too and thought that probably it's designed to pop out of the rubber lip, but wouldn't pop back in again in the other direction, hence then drops and lifts again on close.

not sure why would drop before opening door, it drops after opening so it's in 'down' position when closing

He means like all of the other cars with frameless windows. It stops you from levering the glass as you open the door and damaging the seals and windows blocks etc.

Its the mechanically sympathetic part of my nature. There seems little sense to me in engineering something that has the potential to cause damage when it could have been solutioned better and yes all frameless windows have some kind of issue, im no stranger to them. Had GC8 WRX, TVR, Elise, 3 series coupe , other classic softtops etc etc

But, I get it... I can see that some other people dont worry about it and its really just me, obviously since im the first to mention it lol

However... The thread is called 'πŸ‘Ž Negatives - what annoys, disappoints, puzzles and generally irks you about the GR Yaris?'. Im not saying it ruins the car and im selling up over it. Its an 'irk', an 'annoyance' and it 'disspointed' me that it wasnt improved upon and that also 'puzzles' me... I think Im covered on all counts for the question in the title of the thread...

Consider me an idiot if you like but the question was posed...:ROFLMAO:

If I seriously think about what annoys me, only the frameless windows come to mind.
When I parked it outside at -5 degrees, I couldn't get into the car. Now it's garaged. My motorcycle now has to live outside under a tarpaulin.

I have to admit they don't bother me i had 2 Mini's before so have got used to it! Not had a framed window/door in 20 years lol!!

The AEB has got me twice in a month. Had a genius in an S3 intimately close behind when a car pulled out and Akio slammed on the brakes so given brain dean's response he thought I brake checked him. But all good at the next right angle turn when he chased me through and went 4wding on the exit. Second time was on a multilane suburban road. Red Light, cars ahead slowing and again the brakes came on. This time though it brought the car to a complete stop and nothing I did switched it off. Sitting about 5 car lengths or more from the car ahead. Bloke in a ute beside me shaking his head but so was I. Each time the distance was set to one bar. Ah well the good is much better than the bad. Would love to switch this off though without going into expert mode.

Keep in mind that the GR Yaris shell was put together to go rallying. The frameless windows allow for a more rigid structure which makes sense for that purpose. That it translates into a less-than-ideal solution for a street car is one of the many compromises Toni Makinen was willing to impose on us 😁

Good point, it's one of the few cars no designed by/for the marketing dept.

Sigh... I think Ive not explained it well as people seem to misunderstand my issue with the windows...

I dont dislike the frameless doors at all. There Ive said it. In fact I really like frameless windows and its a feature I enjoy about this car.

What I dislike is the fact they dont drop before the the door opens and as such it pulls on the seal. I think Toyota could have done that part better is all.

Rally car design or not, its about the engineering of the window drop. It doesnt need to be explained away by the throwaway 'its a rally car mate' line, its just not been done very well from a company that could have provided a better engineered solution for longevity of the components.

As has been said, its an 'irk'. Not a deal breaker. It doesnt need to be explained away, its there. Flaws are part of what makes cars have soul. Look at Alfa Romeo, most owners love their cars for all their flaws and they are most often not 'irks'. lol
