Feels like Iโ€™m the only GR86 owner in Scotland who hasnโ€™t booked in with Preserve & Protect yet๐Ÿ˜„
๐Ÿ˜‚ I figured as I'd paid to protect the bodywork I really should do the same to the underside. Balancing the upfront cost with costs down the line to replace perished components if I don't do anything but keep it a long time which I'm hoping to do.

I am on 5000 miles now and that winter did make me look underneath and think it would be worthwhile. If I plan to keep the car 10 years, then I looked at the cost in that way. Buttons really over that period - the price of a bad meal in a chain restaurant, that I know I would not entertain anyway ๐Ÿ˜. I did have the car prepped by my valet (he's the butler too) chap with some fancy stuff, but no PPF - headlamps notwithstanding. It does make some sense considering I took the 10 year plan from Toyota for maintenance.

I booked my first service today with Western in Stirling for August. A whilst you wait booking slot with plenty of lead in time to ensure parts are in place. The 'do not tickle with a stone filled sponge' option ticked as well. I will sit and do some work whilst drinking their finest coffee. I chose not to use the supplying dealer from Glasgow, went with the one that all the local farmers around here use for their Hi-luxs. If they are prepared to travel that extra distance, then the reasons must add up - they all say a better level of service than Macklin. Time will tell.

Made a jack pad to protect the pinch welds from bending... puts the load on the area around the pinch welds instead of on them

I love this!

Have you considered one of the "wearable" ones that clip onto the pinch weld as a permenant jack point? I have seen aluminium ones on the market, but they aren't deep enough so don;t actually put the load on the horizontal surfaces.

My fear is I'll do it all carefully at home, but tyre shop savages will not.

Not today but a month ago I took mine to Mx5 restorer for underseal protection. They are not as thorough as that place in Scotland but if they underseal those rust buckets then they know what to do, plus they have treated a few gt86s in the past

Yes I have considered make a permanent mounted version in all corners but someone pointed out that it might trap water and cause rust.... not sure if that is a concern or not...

Sold mine!
Iโ€™ve got some BC racing coilovers for sale if anyone is interested? Theyโ€™re listed in the market place.

Mine is due in June and I'm now feeling guilty that I haven't booked it yet!

Been driving quite a bit recently, odometer ticking along nicely.

But

Lost a fight with foliage on a country lane due to [forum-banning expletives] inconsiderate drivers. Its not much, but it is noticeable on the paint if you look for it... first of presumably many battle scars but annoying nonetheless

Thats so annoying. If the scratch disappears when you make it wet and only shows when dry there is a good possibility it will polish out, so may be worth finding a local Detailer to take a look at it. Hope its ok.
