GR86 GR86- Cars for sale - General Discussion

It’s 22% of cars sold for 2024 have to be EVs in order to not receive a fine of £15k per car for any ICE cars sold over the 78% allowance, or the manufacturer can buy credits from other manufactures who have spare allowance, like Tesla who sell 100% EVs
2025 is 28% EV and 2026 is 33% all the way to 80% by 2030 and 100% by 2035.
Can anyone see even the 33% target being achieved in 2 year time, I can’t.

I certainly won’t be buying some [emoji90] EV.
I’ll be sticking with my Corolla.

Yeah, with new car market sales crashing that’s definitely possible.

It's coming. Targets are targets, whether they're on time or late.
"You can buy this EV now Sir, or we have one allocated slot for a 1.0 Aygo in 2032 still available. No, I can't guarantee a price, spec or delivery date, but I can take a deposit today."

Yep, that's what it will be like. You'll be almost forced into it, as the deal will be so much better.

The supply of petrols and diesels will dry up.

It's annoying when Governments mess with market forces isn't it.

As long as I can still drive my GR86 for fun, I don't have a problem with an EV for the daily grind. It's loads cheaper at the minute on a cheap electric tariff, £4 for a charge, for approx 200 miles.

If you change tariff to something like Octopus intelligent EV it's 7.5p per kWh off peak 11;30 to 6am. So charge at night and a full battery is about £4.
I've got an MG4 51kwh battery, so 51x0.075p = £3.85 plus the usual standing charges of course.

So £4 gives about 200 miles in the MG4.

Solar and batteries seem to have a long break even, maybe 7 years+.
Funnily, I gave my wife the choice of cars when she changed jobs last year. An MG4, or something called a GR86 which she did not know I had put my name down for many months beforehand. Thankfully, 'she' picked the GR86 and has subsequently fully relished the 200 miles out of 3600 she's driven it so far 😁

Was the MG4 this one?

Morbidly curious as to what happened to that. Assumed a rollover at first, but the roof damage is only at the front, and I'd expect to see one whole side crumpled and scratched, but the sides seems comparatively unscathed. Looks like it ran into something/something rolled up over the front, but there's also hefty damage to the rear quarter.

Sad to see, but the nature of the car that’s made for playing, drifting etc it’s going to happen quite a lot in the hands of mere mortals.
A low volume car getting even lower, imagine 10 years time how few will still be peachy on the road.

pffft. Thats nothing, try a GT86 on Michelin Primacys, they turn to wood below 7degC. PS4s are lightyears better.
Never had the pain/pleasure and would never intend too. Having lived in the North of Scotland for 25 years, I know the value of the right tyres for the correct season on each car I owned. Try a 1986 911 Supersport on Bridgestone S02As in the snow 😁
